Seems like someone tried to adapt/fit too-long brake rods.
Anything other than a pure, STRAIGHT brake rod will tend to lengthen under tension giving a soft pedal. Very unsafe.

I think we're missing the labor cost of producing the kit -- cutting, measuring. All that goes into the box you get.
