Re: '55 Ford car headlight swtich

I had the same problem when I put a new switch in but used the old knob and rod. If I remember right, I really tightened the outside nut that has the goofy turning slots. I haven't taken mine back...

Re: Can't get clear answer on spark plugs

So the NGK cross reference for the original H-10 plug lists 4:

NGK B-4H-10
NGK B4H-10
NGK PFR6H-10
NGK PFR7H-10

I assume the last three are hotter plugs (I have no idea why #1 and #2 have...

Can't get clear answer on spark plugs

I just read 56yblock's post on spark plugs. Seems all he got was Chinese Autolites are no good. Yesterday I searched "best spark plugs for 1954 Y-block and read JimNNN's post asking what plugs are...

Re: Synthetic oil in a Model A

I use semi-synthetic (with no leaks) 10-40 with high zinc and phosphorus. No complaints other than cost. I change oil before 1,000 miles but that's about 2 years of driving.

Re: Grease gun problem

These pump handle grease guns are the messiest, troublesome tool EVER invented. This is sure an over-ripe invention needing to be made!!

Re: Classtique Upholstery

I agree. Lots of bright, energetic young folks out there. Exactly what's wrong with them seeking higher paying, good benefits jobs?

Re: Model B carburetor

A spec is just a spec...in many cases just a starting place. I've found the B carb needs a little "experimentation" when on an A. After a bunch of tries, my float is set at a slight upward angle...

Re: Throttle linkage and spring on engine side of firewall

I have a stick shift so I don't think I have a passing gear link. I'll have to put a flashlight on that throttle link screw to see if there is an indentation. Thank you for your explaination.

Re: Throttle linkage and spring on engine side of firewall

If the "W.O.T." thing you mention is the kick-down switch.....then no, with a manual tranny it will work as long as you can mash the gas pedal to the floor. My switch works fine.

Re: Throttle linkage and spring on engine side of firewall

I never answered when it was brought up, but the car has a manual transmission.

Re: Throttle linkage and spring on engine side of firewall

Thanks Dave. The spring that came with the car was simply wrapped over that throttle link screw and that didn't look right to me....too much wear on that screw. I found that hole in the bottom...

Re: Throttle linkage and spring on engine side of firewall

Thank you. I printed them off but can't quite envision it. It shows two springs and I only had one that obviously came from a hardware store. Thanks again.

Throttle linkage and spring on engine side of firewall

I have a 54 customline V8 239 Y-block. The previous owner did a farmers fix (no offense to farmers meant) on the throttle return spring on the linkage near the engine side of the firewall. I can't...

Re: My Cardiologist

If all you folks agree with this, I must be a MASTER MECHANIC cause my coupe steers, turns and brakes relatively easily. I think you should get another doctor, OR....walk for two miles and then...

Re: front motor mount '31 Model A

This is the right answer. That "beehive" aftermarket was famous for your problem. Put in the original style. Loosen the rear motor mount bolts. This will let the engine move forward. You may...

Re: Sticking Brakes

First thing would be a GOOD cleanup......then a "wear" inventory. The brakes on these cars can be an eternal source of frustration. A grab here....a screech there.... chatter everywhere. Adding new...

Re: Motorcrqaft TT10 alternatives?

I run the Autolite 3076 in my Coupe with a Mitchell ID and a 5.5:1 HC head. Car has great power and runs very smoothly with these plugs. Have tried others, but not with as good results.

Re: maximum rpm, personal choice...

I'm not comfortable running much above 2200 rpm. But I have a Mitchell and an HC 5.5:1 head. These let me drive between 50 - 55 mph at 1800 to 2000 rpm, with which I am very comfortable.

Re: Check your new inner tubes

I can't even imagine getting a "patched" new tube. Maybe you should tell the vendor and suggest a new source for their tubes.

Re: mitchell O/D

Their 6-9 months can extend itself. I ordered through Bert's and after about 9 months gave Bert's an e-mail and within days one was in the mail to me. Seems like it helps to rattle the cage.. But...

Re: front spring where to buy ?

I believe the suppliers catologs will tell you if their bearings are Timken. When I bought them they came in Timken boxes.

Re: Brake floaters

I've put FHT's on my coupe. I have not had an easy time dialing everything in. But having said that, the brakes are much better now than before I did the work. The brakes on an A can be a constant...
