Re: 8CM high oil pressure?

Well I put about 50miles on the car today, just cruising in town so a few hours of driving. Seeing 22-25psi at idle, 40-50 at cruising rpm, and about 70 when I really get on it. I’m happy with those...

Re: 8CM high oil pressure?

Ok, I’m having temp gauge issues, but I’m positive that got it up to temp (no way it wouldn’t be up to temp with 180° stats and no heater cores), I drove it probably 4-5 miles, it was running for...

8CM high oil pressure?

I get the same reading on 2 different mechanical gauges. For a moment I thought that may have been the problem, but the gauge is fine.

Re: 8CM high oil pressure?

I haven’t run it up to temp yet. I was going for a few laps up and down the driveway but I had to stop and fix something on my exhaust. I will let you know once I can get it up to temp. I did notice...

8CM high oil pressure?

I fired my Flathead for my 50 merc up today for the first time. For some reason I’m getting 50-60psi of oil pressure at idle. Revving it up will move it to about 70, maybe 75. I’m thinking there is...

50 merc heater bypass

Getting my merc back together for some fall cruising before winter hits. Im bypassing the heater cores and I’m wondering if I can just plug the fittings on the head and water pump or if I have to...

Re: Oil pump idler gear bushing problems

Thank for the help guys. I was able to hone it out myself and got it to fit.

Oil pump idler gear bushing problems

I’m rebuilding the 8CM out of my 50 merc. I got a new bushing for the idler gear that links the oil pump to the cam, ordered it from Red’s, pressed it in to my existing gear, and it’s too small for...

Re: I made a clock from the clutch out of my ‘50 Merc

Glad you all like it! I guess I wasn’t aware that these were getting hard to come by. The car has had a spare in the trunk for probably about as long as I’ve been alive, so I haven’t had to go...

I made a clock from the clutch out of my ‘50 Merc

I was looking at the old clutch pressure plate that I pulled off my ‘50 Merc, and I noticed how it would make a great clock face. So, I zip-tied a clock mechanism to it and now I have a pretty cool...

Re: Is this hole behind my oil pump gear normal?

Thanks for checking. Appreciate it.

As for my confusion on the possible edit, I noticed it didn’t say it was edited, but I quoted that reply, and looking at my quote it didn’t have the second...

Ah, I think he edited to add that since I replied, or I am blind. Thanks.

Re: Is this hole behind my oil pump gear normal?

Thank you. Would be interested to know why that's there if anybody can tell me. I haven't gotten the books I ordered yet, maybe they will say.

Is this hole behind my oil pump gear normal?

So, I’m looking at my block trying to understand and plan for the 95% mod and I noticed an interesting hole behind the oil pump drive gear. From what I can see, it just dumps straight back into the...

Re: Would you run this oil pump?

I’ll read up there. Drive gear is really sloppy on its shaft so I will be doing something with that. That’s the last thing I need to get removed from the block, waiting to find time to run the block...

Would you run this oil pump?

Compared to the pressures I have been used to in this engine it was low. It would normally slow idle closer to 10 when warm. Here’s a couple rod bearings, they all looked about like these, mostly saw...

Would you run this oil pump?

I’m rebuilding my 8CM after it started losing oil pressure. I found a considerable amount of sand in the engine, and I’m 99.9% sure the source of the pressure loss is the cam and rod bearings, cause...

Re: I’m rebuilding my first Flathead and I have some questions

For sure. This place has been my go-to for questions I have on the car. I’ve been able to find almost all of my questions already answered here.

Re: I’m rebuilding my first Flathead and I have some questions

Yep, it was already chopped when my grandpa pulled it out of a mud field up near Duluth in the early 90’s.
