Re: Break-in gone wrong!
One possibility if the rear oil pump idler gear was installed backwards {easy to do on the 8BA} the gear mesh will work for a short time then the gear will strip thus the oil pump will not turn...

Re: How important is the oil pan baffle
I have built many early engine's using the same oil pan as yours where the baffle was removed with the latter oil pump then installed. Not one of the individuals who have those engine's ever...

Re: How important is the oil pan baffle
If your referring to the plate that's located in the sump area of the pan running side to side when the latter 80 pound pump is used the plate is removed due to it being in the way of the latter...

Re: Compression questions
Watch the water levels in the water outlets of the water pumps on your heads. You need to have the block and radiator as full as the pump outlets so you can watch the water for bubbles in the pump...

Re: One Fast Flathead
The only time I saw the car it made two runs that day. There's never really been any other competition to run against Ricks car so going rounds at an event wasn't done to my knowledge. Exhibition...

Re: One Fast Flathead
Rick Schnell's Blown flathead burning nitro methane fuel on an engine dyno is capable of making 900 Horsepower. RPM is 7000 at the 1320 1/4 mile mark. Block is filled with aluminum then the intake...

Re: Cleaning out my cams
We all have had a degree of learning by way of cams over the years. My little 258 blower combination on the street ran strong with a Potvin 3/8 super we figured it was making a good 300 HP. Same...

Re: New Eddie Myers’s heads question
Piston looks fine no issues there from the picture. Would be nice to see the thickness of the putty when its cut in the center and then measured with the vernier. The Orosco heads may be domed at a...

For most there's no reason to be concerned with squish. What you wrote about back in the 60's and the old days as well is still how its being done today by most people who just buy a set of heads...

Re: Potvin cams
If this is a 32 cam a picture of the cam journals would verify it. Not so sure from the look of that cast area between the lobes midway.

Re: Potvin cams
Since all three journals measure lower than the Ford dimension its simply a worn cam. If a cam that measures worn is used for a profile change its simple for the grinder to go to a .010 undersize...

Re: What do the experts say?
Here's how I do it.
1- Never loosen the nut. Check the torque in three steps just as its done at assembly.
2- Yes copper coat
3- A good quality blue, black or gray silicone sealer works...
