Jim - Shoebox Central, talk with Chris, they rebuilt my 49,, and there was improvement.
Worm out steering links combined with the worn out box are not fun to drive.

Those are aftermarket lights. You have the single stop light - stock. The aftermarket were installed for turn signals and dual brake lights.
I've seen them in a few configurations.

Did this last year on my 49, without any special tools. Combination of what Tubman and Rock mentioned.

I also removed the axles to replace the bearings and seals.

I used a self tapping screw...

That shoebox belongs to Ron Heiden, who does the woodie wood working. He has towed that trailer all over the west!
Not only the weight involved, the trailer must track behind the tow vehicle.

Local speedo shop made a new cable for my stock 49 wagon.

Should be the same length as the sedan - cowl is in the same location. Front clips interchange.
Did it coil during install?

19Fordy's advice is the way to go. So much easier. Removing the hood, keep track of the hinge fasteners, and those washers.

Used these guys for C10 truck bumpers years ago, prices seemed reasonable at the time.
Sherms does awesome work, especially on small pieces, and they do not lose your parts.

Try using "mineral spirits", available in quarts and gallon containers. Use a parts cleaning brush, putty knife, coarse steel wool, etc., It will take several attempts to clean.

Kiwi -- There is a seat adjustment lever which will move the seat front to back. I cleaned the track and mechanism on mine, slid the seat back.

Changed out my stock 49 woodie to 12v in 2006 and have had zero issues.

Get the 6v wiring harness and convert to 12 volts negative ground. An alternator that looks like a generator - Powermaster...
