Re: changing rear main seal on a 223

Yep, I agree. Thanks for the sleeve and gasket set numbers. I would not have guessed that O'Reilys would carry parts this old. I still have some time before I need to re-install the engine, so I'm...

Re: changing rear main seal on a 223

Thanks for the replies guys. They were helpful. I did go to the fordsix.com site. Plenty of good 223 related discussion. I will be spending plenty of time there. The Summit tool is the Chinese puzzle...

I need some advice on changing the rear main seal in the family 57 wagon. The engine is a 223 six cylinder and it is out of the car at the moment. I assume that it has the old rope seal and I imagine...

Re: painting manual transmissions

I agree Hivolt5.0. That is exactly what I'm looking for. Did you paint first then assemble, or the other way around? Were you able to find all the small parts you wanted to replace? I'm looking for...

Re: painting manual transmissions

Thanks for the good advice guys. I like the rattle can case iron approach. It'll give me some rust protection and the guy I run over won't even know it's painted. I'll go with the cast blast product.

painting manual transmissions

Did Ford paint their manual transmisson cases in the 50's? I don't remember ever seeing them painted, but it just doesn't seem right not to throw some paint on the overdrive I'm building before...

identifying transmission gears

I just picked up a T86 overdrive transmission for my 57 wagon. It is apparently out of a 61 ford car and appears to be just what I need. The trans and overdrive unit are in great shape, all except...

Re: resister required for a replacement coil

resister required for a replacement coil

I bought an Accel 8140 Super Stock coil to replace what looked like the original coil on my '57. Good coil, I'm sure, but the package says nothing about an external resistor. Back in the day, coils...
