Get a good sealer from one of the good vendors. It works, done it in both of my A's and have had no problem.

Buy another used carb on line and rebuild it. May sole the problem and give you experience in the rebuild process. Buy new parts to put in for the rebuild.

It also may depend on the type of radiator you have. My radiator is a heavy duty one and the water pump nut up front if 1/8 inch from the radiator. But never had it overheat!

I do the same-buy the stuff in the squeeze bottle. Or get a squeeze bottle and use it. This method works great for both the rear end and getting to the tranny hole.
