Re: Speedo only goes to 58mph

I believe that your speedo needs to be recalibrated. The part that the cable goes into and is driven by the cable which is magnetized, which in turn pulls the "speed cup"to move the needle to the...

Re: Deluxe vs Standard 38 Fenders

I'm not even sure that delux fenders will fit on a standard. I have a 1938 standard 2 door sedan and have "eyeballed" delux vs standard fenders and don't think they will fit. Besides, look at the...

Re: Using 12volts on 6 volt starter

I used a 6v starter in my 12v converted 38 Tudor till it burned up. Took it to my local starter, gen. Alt. Repair shop. They put 12v guts in the same case, cost about $80.00 and has been working...

Re: 1961 Galaxie

The only way you can tell which engine you have (FE engine) is to put number one piston on top dead center. Remove spark plugs number one and number four. Get a long piece of coat hanger, small...

Re: Cure for vapor lock

No, it wasn't doing any of that. I have 180 degree thermostats. When the temp got up to 180 degrees and the engine was fully warmed up it would act like it was running out of gas, would die and...

Re: Cure for vapor lock

I believe that I had covered all the things that should have fixed the vapor lock. So I didn't think I had vapor lock. On the other hand the coil in the car was unknown and it was chrome. I have...

Re: How about a movie thread? Car related?

How about "Flim-flam man" with George C. Scott. There's lots of different makes of cars and trucks and if you look real close you will see a yellow and white 1960 Ford Starliner. Great movie also.

Re: R10 Overdrive Issue

The passage that allows oil to reach the OD part of the trans maybe blocked causing the noise you hear. My T-85/R11 has a fill plug to add oil to the OD. Try that.

Re: battery disconect switch in brass

I don't know about brass but most all the suppliers have those disconnectors. I don't like that type of disconnect because they sometimes don't make good contact. I like the switch with an on/off...

Re: POR UV Sensitivity.....what happens

What is recommended with POR 15 is to put a good coat of your favorite primer over the stillwet or at least tacky por 15. Has to at least be tacky or it won't stick. Then you can paint over the...

Re: 1938 standard guage cluster ?

There is an ad on eBay that says it is a 38 gauge cluster. It is not the same as mine. It has no larger stripe and the three smaller stripes aren't the same. I guess I'll stick with what I have.

Re: OD solinoid

I,be heard you can with a voltage reducer. It's "hot" whenever it's running though so I don't think the thing will last long running it on 12v.

Re: Oil pan plug questain

I called all over town and couldn't find a copper crush gasket. I ended up with a thick paper gasket the right size. Will see how it works.
