Re: Transmission pops out of third gear

The shims should be the same thickness as any gasket between the flywheel housing and the bell housing. No gasket, no shims.

I think you are grasping at straws and a transmission rebuilt is in...

Re: Homemade Radiator Mascots

Bob, The Model T'ers don't take their cars as seriously as Model A'ers do. You might look on the Model T forum for ideas. I like the Model T radiator mascot of a cherub who pees on people who...

Re: Power Loss After Carb Rebuild

Check to see if the throttle is opening all the way first. Since you put in a new main jet, another thing to check is to see if the tip of the jet is at the throat of the venturi. If it is not at...

Re: Crank hole cover rivet

A method to reduce the precision required is to use one of those spring washers. There are two types, conical and the ones that look like a potato chip.

Re: Oil leaking around spark plug 2 &3

The gasket is the seal, not the threads. I doubt that having the threads broken at the top would allow oil, or combustion products, to leak out. (However I have been wrong in the past.) Screw...

Re: Leak on top of carb...

Banditorama may be correct that the fuel is coming out the idle jet (Post #8). But it is also probably coming from other places too. 1.5 liters is a lot to have come out the throttle shaft. It...

Re: A perplexing oiling problem - A new one to me!

Marshall, Your idea of the wrong parts makes sense. I am afraid you have to take the oil pump out and examine it. There are some drawings and dimensions in the Service Bulletins that show the...

Re: Oil leaking around spark plug 2 &3

Loose plugs, bad copper gaskets, bad thread in head, bad surface on top of heat where gasket goes, bad threads on plugs, bad surface on plug. Take plugs out. Get new gaskets and plugs. Look at...

Re: light switch install

You could install it at the 3-9 position but then the light switch at the steering wheel would be at 3 or 9 o'clock.

Re: Throw out bearing grease fitting

Should be 1/8 NPT. You could try a different size. The auto parts supply stores have assortment boxes for sale. Try 1/4-28 or M6 or M8. Tapping the hole in situ will introduce chips where you...

Re: A perplexing oiling problem - A new one to me!

The output for the oil pump has to line up with the gallery in the block. If it is not pushed in enough it could be out of alignment. Drop the pan and try to push the pump in to make sure it is...

Re: Adjusting Brake Rods

If the rods are set to the right length and the brakes will not come into adjustment, then there is something wrong that needs to be fixed. The length of the rods should not be used to adjust the...

Re: electrical charging problem

Another possibility is that the generator needs re polarization. The field magnets may have lost their residual magnetism.

Re: Tail Lights

Tom, If you have turn indicators you may have to replace the flasher with one designed for LED's or add resistors in parallel. You can buy the resistors online that are designed for replacing...

Re: Nothing Seems to Fit!

Ed - Securely tighten the nut on the bolt. Use a breaker bar. Test the pitman arm to make sure that there is absolutely no movement relative to the sector shaft.

Re: how to repair top casting on sidebowl carburetor???

These days there are specialty rods for welding cast iron. Search for that. V the break, clamp the ear on, and weld. If you do not feel confident doing that yourself, find a good welder, one who...

Re: 1931 model a engine

Usually that would indicate a leaky head gasket, so you were correct to take the head off. Clean up the mounting surfaces as I said and use the graphite gasket as Bruce said. Use the spray copper...

Re: 1931 model a engine

Normal looking. You can clean it up if you want. Use a scraper and not a wire brush as the bristles can break off and cause damage. Clean the block and head surfaces where the gasket sits and as a...

Re: Rear main options

I would not chance it on a 4,000 trip. There are a couple rear bearing caps on eBay right now. Neither looks pretty but one may be serviceable. Or keep looking, perhaps at one of the Model A...
