Good Day,

I have noted differences between the faces of Stewart Warner and Waltham 60 MPH speedometers fitted to large 1940’s trucks with the 4 speed transmission.

I have a good working...

Re: WW2 Ford Canada Military Engines- PCV system

Most Welcome,

Yes, very unique to military engines yet they became standard features on most civilian engines 15 years later.

You can only imagine the amount of sand, dust, and dirt sucked up...

Re: WW2 Ford Canada Military Engines- PCV system

Hi Lawrie,

They turn up everywhere!

If they had a Sunshine roof I'd even drive to Qld for it when Victorians are allowed in.
Here is a similar Chevy Blitz "Sunshine" Tropical Roof like I am...

Hi Tom,

Attached photos of the info on the valve after I chalked it up:

Good Day,

Responding to a PM, but I could not post photos there so here is the setup used on Ford Canada Flathead V8's for positive crankcase ventilation on military vehicle engines:

Re: Speedometer gears- 1940's 4 speed truck transmissions

Thanks,

So I am only guessing from this that Ford designed the 4 speed transmission mount so the driven gear was at the maximum distance required by the various combinations of drive and driven...

Re: Speedometer gears- 1940's 4 speed truck transmissions

OK, I understand the different turtles, and the torque tube models, but it still doesn't explain how the 1942 to 1947 4 speed truck gear chart speedometer gears combinations worked with a fixed...

Re: Speedometer gears- 1940's 4 speed truck transmissions

Hi,

Don't think a "Turtle" is used on the 4 speeds.

Here is a typical mount as used on the 4 x 2 Ford CMP Trucks. Looks the same as the commercial truck rear mount.
No proviso to move the...

Speedometer gears- 1940's 4 speed truck transmissions

Hello,

While working out my speedometer cable for my 1943 Ford Canada CMP truck I was looking at speedometer gears and found that the 4 x 4 transfer case speedo driven gear is unique to these...

Re: 1943 Ford 4 spd truck tranmission- part ID

Hi Mart,

I am now thinking the same thing. Mine connects to a single speed transfer case by a small jackshaft.

Perhaps Ford Canada decided the leakage along the splines was so insignificant...

Re: 1943 Ford 4 spd truck tranmission- part ID

Hi,

After a closer inspection it definitely appears to be compressed fibre. Broke a tiny bit off with my finger.

The diagram seems to b a generic one as it does not show the threaded end at the...

Re: 1943 Ford 4 spd truck tranmission- part ID

Hi Bob,

Thanks but the ID of mine is 1.00" same as the threads on the end of the main shaft. It is definitely non-magnetic so not steel.

Cheers,

Jock

Re: Colour of WW2 Ford CMP truck tranmission

Yes I saw that Duplicolor but it seems to be a light green colour just looking at the cap. I know you cannot rely on colour based on cap colour but it seems way off the dark vintage Ford green. I...
