Re: Garage lights

I would say they don't! Motor homes are made to run on generators and the new ones have nothing but LEDs.

Re: English language - a bit off topic

I was in Spain, specifically the Basque country a number of years ago, and met a lady that was originally from Scotland. After we had gotten to know each other, I commented on how I loved her...

Re: Insulation material

I use Fatmat in my roadster, Motorhome, and my wife's 51 F1.
I believe it is similar to Dynamat. It quiets a lot and does keep it cooler. I am restoring a 30 pickup and it will get Fatmat everywhere...

Re: Inquiring about transporting Model A

I used a broker called Amerifreight. They require their carriers to have certain levels of insurance, and they have a rating system. I was very happy with them bringing a car from Ohio to Oregon....

Re: License Plates

In 1929 they decided to start issuing plates in July instead of Jan. So they let you run a 1929 plate until July of 1930. By then it was time for the 1931 plate that would expired in July of 1931....

Re: License Plates

I wish I could run a YOM plate on my pickup.
1930 plates don't exist in Oregon.

Re: Bodywork and painting panels on or off the car?

I just finished installing front fenders and splash shields on the chassis. I can't imagine trying to do the front fenders on the car.

Re: March 2020 Hemmings Model A calendar pic

Yeah, we were bummed, ours was too. But it got beat out by another roadster with the same color scheme.

Re: green engine paint

Pretty sure Berts has it. The last time I bought some, was from Amazon. Pioneer antique Ford engine paint.
Exact same as what I bought from suppliers before

Re: Battery connector corroding

It can also be caused by your generator output being too high. If you are having to add water fairly often, you are boiling the cells dry. That makes the battery emit hydrogen gas and water which...

Re: Redneck ( but effective) way to clean gas tank

No, this method does not get all the rust. I really didn't think it would. It does knock off all the loose stuff, and removes a good portion of the rust. If this was a fine point restoration, I...

Re: Redneck ( but effective) way to clean gas tank

I thought about the nuts, but was afraid I might not get them all out. So I used 10 pounds of BB steel shot, and 10 pounds of #6.
I was planning on turning it like you explained and doing it again....

Re: Gear oil

A lot of folks think 600w stands for 600 weight, similar to 90 weight. It doesn't.

Re: commercial color list for 1929

Actually I believe there were more colors available as of August 1930. Then even more in 31.
I am going to use Rubellite red which was introduced in '30. I believe it was the only Red done at the...

Re: Hand throttle notches

How badly is the rod worn. If it's just the plate. You can deepen the grooves with a three corner file. If the rod is worn as well, most are, then you are going to have to replace the rod and renew...

Re: Preferred Vendor for parts?

I only buy from Berts. Not only same day shipping, no handling charges, but if you have a question, they know model As inside and out. That's all they do, for 40 years

Re: Is it possible to repair the upper radiator tank without radiator removal?

Two things to add to Joe's post. First, I always remove the front bumper first. Only two nuts and it just makes everything easier. The take the rear hood hinge post loose. If there are shims or...

Re: Transport recommendations

I used Amerifreight, a broker out of Florida to transport my 30 pickup from Ohio to Oregon. I was very happy with them. I dealt with a Richard Jernigan.

Re: New guy in North Idaho

Les Andrews red book is invaluable for the new model A Guy.
I highly recommend Berts Model A for parts, books and info. They have been there for 40 years and do nothing but Model As.
I believe it...
