Re: 8BA fuel pump pushrod diameter

.060" deflection at the top of the rod is insignificant. In my opinion, unless the rod itself showed unusual side wear on the shaft I would not be concerned.

Re: Hard turning with new pistons

Was the crank turned prior to assembly, or was the crank already done prior to your build? If done before you, did they check the crank for straight?

Re: Question on cam gear marks

Hi Brian, the engine is partially torn down for visual inspection. I'm considering pulling the heads so i can check the rings for broken. When putting some of the pistons in, i had a problem with the...

Re: Question on cam gear marks

Gary, with all plugs removed it cranks like any other flat v8. When running, I have removed ignition from each plug and checked how it reacted and with throttle. All seemed to respond in a similar...

Re: PCV valve good idea?

That's an interesting question. I'm curious also. Awaiting some answers on this, although I doubt much rear main leaks are from crankcase pressure.....but maybe??

Re: Cleaning Silvered Plated Lamp Reflectors

Post 18 for the lamp-black. I think you can make your own by lighting an acetylene torch and not giving the flame any oxygen. You let it build up on the reflector surface and with a soft cloth polish...

Re: Wisdom of Stopping Engine by Choking It Out

A healthy "A" engine is the easiest engine to start I have ever experienced. Someone, can't remember whow, on this forum once said, "an "A" engine wants to run". That has been my experience. The...

Re: Question on cam gear marks

I confirmed the cam is ok because I have run it before in another motor.

Compared to another, the cam gear is properly marked.

Re: Question on cam gear marks

No Terry, there is no coil bind. There would be I bet, if I was using rotators.

Re: Engine Expert Opinions Needed

Yes, I'm using the passenger front cylinder as #1. My crank gear was so lightly marked it could be easily missed. It does fullfill the rule 3rd gear tooth clockwise from the keyway of the gear.

I have an earlier post called "Question on Cam Gear Marks" that discusses an engine problem I am having. Please visit that post and give me your take on my problem.

Thanks

Re: Question on cam gear marks

Thank you for responding Terry.
100% sure the fireing order is set correctly. I am using the older stock spring components, not the rotators Also pertinent, I am running Chevy valves with the...

Re: Question on cam gear marks

The cam is an Isky 77B that i have run before, so its not the cam. I did the zip tie today for tdc and changed the front cover and pully to the 8BA setup, and my tdc 's both matched perfectly. Not a...

Re: Fun at Mart's. Old Ford Rally. 32 Sedan shocks (still). Ol' 59 Flatty Crank out.

Mart, with as many flatys as I've torn down, I never realized you could pull the crank without pushing all the pistons to the top. Guess i never had one as bad as your last few.

Learning...

Re: Question on cam gear marks

Thought I would add a few facts. I'm running a helmet '40 distributor, with the '40 pulley, so I have no pointer and cover to use as reference. I will use the ref photo and the zip tie for idc today.

Question on cam gear marks

I have a V8 engine that just will not run correctly. I have rebuilt a few flatheads and never had a problem like this. Engine runs like the cam is way out of time. It does not sound like the typical...

Re: Fumbled a piston

Purely a budget and personality decision. It would be just fine. Now the question whether you would be fine whichever way you go?????????
