Does it have a cowl code stamped into the upper firewall area like Ford does? The cowl code contains a wealth of information.

Had the same happen on my avatar. Turned out to the striker plate had moved a hair so I had to loosen it and re-adjust it. This probably is the first thing I would check out and should be the easiest.

That's a great looking '51. You are a very lucky person to have it along with the fact that it was your grandfathers. I believe tho it is a custom deluxe tudor not a coupe. There were 317,869 of them...

To add to the discussion, your cowl number should give you all the particulars of the car. I am assuming the '49s have a cowl number like the 50's. All of these sedans have a longer roof line than...

The battery cut-off switch is supposed to go on the ground terminal. Others on here might explain why.......

1950 Ford Custom Deluxe Coupe-much nicer than my 50 coupe now but it was only 17 years old then and a 1971 Dodge Charger 383 Magnum.

Agree with you. I was told by an old radiator repairman that heating problems at idle or very low speeds is an air flow problem and heating at highway speeds is a radiator capacity/flow problem.
