Re: 39 No fire at the plugs

There's a whole lot of sense in that statement. You can look down in it and see whats happening. I like that. Lots of folks run the solid state jobbers, but it's a mystery box. The car came to me...

Re: 39 No fire at the plugs

The positive 12 volts goes to the + side of the coil. Negative to the negative on the coil. Green to chassis ground from the harness. On the battery, + goes to the starter solenoid. Negative on the...

Re: 39 No fire at the plugs

That's what I am thinking as well. I never saw it produce a spark. What I see offered for sale now looks like the one that is on the car now. The one that failed. The exception is the cheaper...

Re: 39 No fire at the plugs

I don't think it has points.

One more question. What is the resister for? I always thought for dropping the 12v back to 6, for the other accessories. That's just a guess. Does it need to be in...

39 No fire at the plugs

I'm trying to start this car after decades of sitting up. It has a Mallory distributor with a new coil. I have it configured for 12 volt, negative ground. Only the ignition and starter are active, at...

attention late 30's convertible sedan owners

I am looking for a part unique to convertible sedans. Its the pillar post, the piece that fits between the front and rear windows when rolled up. Ford made them removable. Mine is a 39 sedan deluxe....

Re: Mallory Ignition

A compression test might be a good idea. The oil looked like old oil. A little brown. No gray color like when water gets in. I changed the oil.It has set up for years. The guy I got it from acquired...

Re: Mallory Ignition

Wow. I didn't even know there was a breaker panel. I've seen nothing that I can identify as that.
It took some prying to get the rotor button off. I was concerned about breaking it. Apparently, it...

Re: Mallory Ignition

The headlights have a pigtail wire hanging from each of them. Tail light assembly is totally missing. It has the old generator. Pretty sad shape, There are replacement units available, but they're...

Re: Mallory Ignition

Headlights are 6 volts. Does that mean its a 6 volt system, or that the previous owner never finished. Other things look left incomplete. I know he had a collection. Several old coupes. I don't know.

Re: Mallory Ignition

The guy I got the car from got it when the owner before him died. He let it sit up for years. It had an old 12 volt battery in it when I got it. My goal is to condemn or resurrect this old system....

Mallory Ignition

I am doing a little planning here. I recently acquired a 39 Deluxe. I want to get a spark out of the ignition system. The previous owner installed a Mallory ignition, with a crab type distributor. I...

Re: Gasoline flow

I read somewhere that ford partnered with Lockheed on the first year of hydraulic brakes usage. I don't know what that means in terms of actual involvement or supply. I thought it was pretty cool....

Re: Gasoline flow

The motor didn't want to turn over. I took the plugs out and added marvel mystery oil to each cylinder. The best I could do is rock it back and forth at first, slowly gaining an inch or two each...

That's it. Por-15 is what my friend used on the underside of his vintage 60's Camaro. It looks great. I plan to try it. Some others I looked at Corro Seal, Rust Converter, and quick glow. The quick...

Re: Gasoline flow

I thought the same thing. I've never replaced the diaphragm. Figured I'd go with a replacement.
So a rubber hose from a portable gas reservoir to the inlet side of the old fuel pump, should provide...
