Re: pennies

I think Ron was answering the O/P's original question. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Timing gear sheared 12 teeth

Nice to know that they are still around; it looks like you may be a source. I dunno, but I would feel better using a cam with a "bolt-on" gear if it's as easy as you say. The concept of a "press-on"...

Re: Ballast resistor for 12V coil

After struggling with this for a long time, I think I have it finally figured out. You don't want to run more than 4 AMPS through the points to avoid burning them prematurely. A practical application...

Re: Timing gear sheared 12 teeth

While the later bolt-on gears '39-'48 and '49-'53 are available on the aftermarket, the earlier "press-on" aluminum gears seem to be made of "unobtanium". Is it possible to use a later ('39-'48) cam?

Or maybe a Ford part number?

Re: Disc brakes for wide-5 drums

OK. Makes sense now. Just seemed a little strange on first read.

Re: pennies

I don't buy into this program at all. Racing manifolds already have no carburetor heat passages; street manifolds do. If you're an all out racer, your manifold will take care of any fuel heating...

Re: Disc brakes for wide-5 drums

I am just a bit confused. Why would you need those adapters on a '36? (I am assuming you mean a Ford.)

Good to hear that the Ford wheels fit them though.

Re: Disc brakes for wide-5 drums

One thing to keep in mind. I seem to remember that these use 5/8" studs on the wide five pattern. I checked the Speedway listing and it says they require their 1" bolts. From my days of racing...

Re: Disc brakes for wide-5 drums

Nah, it was different. As I remember it, the guy was casting and machining specialized aluminum wide five hubs.

I believe he quit because of high cost and low demand. (I'm an expert on that after...

Re: Disc brakes for wide-5 drums

I seem to remember that someone on the H.A.M.B. was making special wide-5 hubs for just this purpose. I did a quick look-see and couldn't find it. Maybe someone else here has a better memory.

Re: Gas under carbs on manifold

Have you checked your fuel pressure? These carbs don't like anything over 2-2 1/2 psi.

How does it run?

"C69A"? Isn't that a Canadian engine?

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

While I agree with Dale that the piloted distributors are probably more stable and therefore better, I have never had a problem with hem not fitting. And I have swapped a lot of distributors on a lot...

Re: 1939 pickup engine oil filter

After 60 years of driving these cars and just a kittle bit of research, I too, have become a big fan of he original "bypass" filters

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the various types of timing covers that were used in the 8BA era (I know I was), here is an example of what's available that I found on the H.A.M.B. A big...

Re: Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

I don't think it's the problem that you are postulating. Think of all of the books put out by the EFV8CA over the last 30 or so years. None of that knowledge was available when I started out. It's...

Re: Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

Owning a Corvette or two (correctly restored, I may add), I once posted on a Corvette forum "What is more out of date than a 5 year old resto-mod?".

It was not well received. After all, it did...

Re: Help with a recent 8ba rebuild

The distributor doesn't care about voltage, nor does the condenser. The coil is the governing factor and should be for the correct voltage.

Re: Early Ford Cutaway Chassis YouTube Videos Global Rollcall and More Info

When I went to the University of Minnesota in the early sixties, there was a cutaway of a V8-60 engine right out in the hallway of the Mechanical Engineering Building. It was well done with a lot of...

Re: 1937 V860 carb issue (i think)

I wouldn't suspect the fuel additive as much as the tank itself (and the associated lines). Unless you are absolutely sure the rest of the system is scrupulously clean, there is a very good chance it...

Re: Pictures of a 1952 Ford car automatic steering column

JB Weld, or perhaps some other high-zoot epoxy, such as Belzona or Dev-Con?

Re: Running ford king seeley gauges on 12 v

Shouldn't that be half as many amps?

I am not sure about the accuracy either, but it may be the way it works. I hope someone does the test suggested above.
