Re: New baby 1953 Merc

I finally remembered to look at the oil I've been adding to the 52 Mercomatic. Its type F. I was planning to change but the oil in it looks so clean I am just running it as is.

Re: New baby 1953 Merc

I agree. I see many comments about updating the brakes on these old Ford/Mercs but I don't see the need. My drums and shoes will lock up the wheels if I want to put enough foot pressure on it. What...

Re: New baby 1953 Merc

Yes, beautiful Merc. 52-53s are my favourite. Mine has a stumble at take off which I attribute to a weak accelerator pump in the Holley carb. I've learned to live with it. Works fine at higher rpm....

Hard Start on the 52

Not normally this hard starting but after a long rest the carb had drained. Then I discovered the linkage on the manual choke was not opening. Once I got that working it was fine. The weather did not...

Re: Cars from my past, how about you

My first licensed "wheels". The 39 Deluxe. Fresh out of my paint shop :0) in the summer of 71. I could do a re shoot of that same photo if I get around to a new ignition coil and fix the brakes. One...

Re: Cars from my past, how about you

I think I still have most of the cars (and trucks) of my past. Nothing too collectible or outstanding. Mostly just sentimental value or family history. I did sell the 72 IH Scout II. There are of...

Re: 1952 Advertising

Really nice Monterey but what it the little insignia on the lower part of the front fender? I've never noticed that on any other 52s that I can recall.

1952 Advertising

I found some well preserved original 1952 Mercury advertising for sale on ebay a while back and it finally arrived yesterday. Amazingly well preserved. I've been looking at examples of them for quite...

Re: 1984 Mustang

Good idea. I'll try that, but not today. Its raining and I'm not taking it out in the mud. Another suggestion I've been given was stabilizer arm bushings might be worn.

1984 Mustang

My first post on this side of the Ford Barn. I recently acquired a very nice 84 Mustang. Very well maintained with a newish silver repaint. Its the 3.8 V6 and still has all or most of the original...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

Thats true. In the fifties you would not find both Lincoln Mercury dealerships and Ford Monarch dealerships in the same small town in Sask. GM and Chrysler dealerships , yes. Really amazing to...

Re: visor

Mine on the 52 Merc has small screws each end on the drip rail and very large through the roof on the centre bracket.
Edit. the outer screws were not on the drip rail but instead were attached to...

Re: Fordomatic oil volume

9 U.S. quarts. Pretty close to 9 litres. Need a manual for your 53 Ford? They have one online at http://oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/Ford/1953/index.htm

Re: Cast iron surface rust removal

I don't have a cabinet. Just a cheap little Princess Auto sand blast attachment for my air compressor. It works amazingly well on any old rusty parts. Great on cast iron like manifolds and heads. But...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114

Mercury from a car show in B.C. Canada in the early 2000s. Is it one of the 114 models?

Re: Stray Voltage?

There is really nothing to indicate the spark plug wires are bad other than the interference they cause on other devices. They appear solid and intact and I don't ever recall seeing any unusual...

Re: Stray Voltage?

That looks exactly like one I bought many years ago. I still have it but it quit working years ago which is why I bought the new digital meter (Princess Auto).

Re: Transmission Oil

Anybody using #30 motor oil in their standard transmissions? Thats what I have in the four speed T17 in my IH Loadstar. The manual calls for straight mineral oil #50 so this is a little lighter than...
