Re: 28 battery box

Mike’s has good stuff, but you don’t need the disconnect cable (+$12.50) to install a battery box unless you have a disconnect switch. From your photo it looks like you have everything you need.

Re: 28 battery box

You’re close to OK. I have used the replacement box on 28s without problems. They all are prone to rustout because of spilled battery acid and road moisture.

If I remember right (it’s been a...

The locator pin fits down into the head, not above it, and seats the dissy proper spot.

Re: I'm not a Model A person

Diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks. If you want to just dispose of that troublesome ol’ Model A, I’ll take it off your hands and even haul it away for a nominal fee.

Re: Is my block dead?

Be careful if you sand blast. Sand can end up in places that you wll regret later, particularly around an engine.

Re: Knock Knock

Pull the starter & check for damaged spring or spring bolt, condition of the bendix drive, and trueness of the shaft. Run a bench test on it by attaching jumper cables and watch for wobble. While you...

Re: Longest trip yet...MPG suck!

I get about 14 mpg no matter what kind of gas I use. All stock, Zenith carb. I haven’t noticed any diff between E and non-E except the price, which is significant in Oregon.

Re: Another question...

I ruined a good engine by driving it fully advanced for general travel. I never take it below 8:00 now, and then only on higher speed for long runs. Now it’s usually about 9:00.

Re: Longest trip yet...MPG suck!

As a new owner of a Model A you should get a copy of the original owner’s manual. It explains everything you need to know for proper setup and driving. They’re available from all A suppliers.

Re: Andalusite Blue

The Ditzler 121 would indicate it is the same color I used on my Tudor in 1980, just different chemistry.

Re: “Normal” model a temp

I run approx 50-50 year round. Took the coupe out today, 67 degrees, came home, shot the radiator, got 140 degrees at the top, 134 degrees at the bottom. This is usually where it runs.

Re: Cleaning the Original Upholstery

Wow! That’s in excellent condition. If it were me I’d do everything I could to preserve it; original upholstery in good condition is very rare. I don’t know the best way to clean it, but you could...

Re: Andalusite Blue

My 29 Tudor was painted with a Ditzler acrylic lacquer Andalusite blue in 1980 and still holds its beautiful color. In shade it looks blue and/or almost black, in direct sunshine it shows a kind of...

Re: Model A Club meetings

I would suggest that you have a greeter at the door who welcomes new faces and new members, and introduces them and asks them to say a little bit about themselves and their car and their interests....
