Re: Rear Cast Iron Brake drums too big for Wheel

Shipping of the new drums plus return of the bad ones is all on Bratton's. I don't think I could ask for much more...accidents do happen and they stepped up and took responsibility for it. I'll...

Re: Rear Cast Iron Brake drums too big for Wheel

ISSUE RESOLVED!!! OK, to satisfy inquiring minds, the problem was acknowledged by Bratton's to be theirs. Apparently, a shipment of drums left the factory without being measured/machined on that...

Re: Rear Cast Iron Brake drums too big for Wheel

Some questions answered...my rims have not been damaged/repaired/welded. I tried 3 out of the 4, all with the same result. They are, as far as I know, 19" stock steel spoked rims with a tire size: ...

Re: Crankshaft Alignment to Block

I have about reached that same conclusion Terry...no amount of shimming or differential between shims will come anywhere close to fixing the problem.

Re: Crankshaft Alignment to Block

Hope I don't appear to be stubborn or naive, but I can't achieve more than 0.002" movement in the 9 and 3 positions with as much as a 0.020" differential between the upper tabs. I am afraid to go...

Re: Crankshaft Alignment to Block

Those are my thoughts exactly...just finished experimenting with a round of shims and movement of the top tabs..the maximum correction I could obtain was less than 0.002 at 9 Oclock and 3 Oclock by...

Re: Crankshaft Alignment to Block

I can "buy into" your and Tom's explanation that the housing does flex and shimming at the top ears can move the outside surfaces...but do you think it is realistic to expect to move those surfaces...

Re: Crankshaft Alignment to Block

Yes, it was about 15-20 degrees off being straight down, and I tapped the crank flange with a soft nosed hammer periodically to make sure the reading didn't change.

Re: Crankshaft Alignment to Block

Herm, you are going to have to explain to me how shimming the ears at the top of the housing will have any effect at all on the 9 and 3 O'clock positions. I can understand how I can align 12 O'clock...

Unhappy Crankshaft Alignment to Block

Long story, but I'll try to be brief. The end objective was to align flywheel housing to the crank flange and measurements here showed a 0.010" difference between sides..9 oclock being high and 3...
