Rod Caps - Advice Needed

Novice here. When I took the engine apart on my 1923 coupe I noticed that the number 2 rod cap had been X and a dipper pipe had been installed. I would have expected that to be the number 1.

None...

Crank end play

I have 023" end play in the crank as measured between the end of the block and the crank flange. What is this going to do to the operation of the magneto?

I was undecided about putting in a new...

My last post only received 1 reply. Perhaps I did not phrase questions right. Hoping for more response this time.

I am working on getting a 1923 coupe running. Not a show car by any stretch of the...

Magneto Advice Needed

I am about ready to pull the engine on my 1923 T. It has been sitting for 30 years.

When it was running last, it was running on battery. My questions are:

1. By 23 the T had battery, starter,...

Re: Need neutral

Thanks. Also occurred to me that I could back off on the low band adjuster and allow band to slip.

Need neutral

Getting ready to transport 1923 T. Can not get tranny to find neutral. Head is off so no compression, but I would rather not have it roll onto transport in gear. Any suggestions? Transmission needs...

Taking off generator

It is confusing me. Everything I read says generator on my 1923 T should come off with three bolts. I see three long bolts. Left, under, and right through the oil breather. Removed all, but...

Re: New to T and Need Advice

Another question: since I am just trying to see if she will start, I understand it is OK to use a 12 volt battery. Correct?

New to T and Need Advice

I am a Model A guy, but I am in the process of tinkering with a 1923 coupe. My father bought it in 1961. I am not sure how much he did to it as I was away at school. It was not running when he got...

Re: Backfire! Help! So frustrated!

Just by trial and error. The one in the truck was the original problem. I replaced it with a "new" one and thought I was good to go. No, but I went on to other things as I thought I was good. Goose...

Re: Backfire! Help! So frustrated!

Well, I solved it. The wire between the upper and lower plate was poorly crimped. The slightest little tug and out it came. Junk imports. Also had to try three "new" condensers before I found a good...

Gas Line

1930 pickup: Curious. Is there a reason why the gas line is 3/8" between the valve and the sediment bowl and the line from the sediment bowl to the carb is 1/4"?

Simply larger to avoid accidental...

Gas drip

I bought a new gas tank valve from one of the suppliers. "Guaranteed not to leak." Leaked like a sieve.

Put the older one back in. Drips once in about two minutes. I am thinking about putting a...

Re: Backfire! Help! So frustrated!

No air filter. I certainly agree with you that each carb is different. I have tried six now. Two of them supposedly "rebuilt." One that is "brand new." All act differently. The Marvel that backfired...

Re: Backfire! Help! So frustrated!

Thank you for the replies.

Update: compression 60, 62,62,64.
I do not think it is manifold or vacuum leak as it runs well at idle.

I checked two zenith carbs for float level. Both seem to be...

Re: Backfire! Help! So frustrated!

Thanks for the reply. The backfire stopped once I opened the GAV about a 1 1/2 turns. Anything leaner backfired again. I put a Zenith back on. That runs best with GAV completely closed.

So the...

Backfire! Help! So frustrated!

My 1930 CCPU always ran rich. It got to the point where it was smoking, stumbling, and an occasional backfire.

A club member lent me a Zenith, and two Tillys. Conditions unknown. Tried all three...
