Re: Nessary spare parts for 1500 miles trip
Depending on type of ignition, I'd have a spare set of points, a condenser, cap and rotor. You might also think about radiator hoses and a set of hose clamps (multiple sizes). Brake fluid as well. ...

Re: Carb Jetting and other engine advice needed
Thanks Tim - I don't have any Edelbrock's with heat - other than the Slingshot (which is a great street manifold - one of the best).
I'm with you on the 4x2 manifolds - they were pretty much used...

Re: Carb Jetting and other engine advice needed
I have a couple Edelbrock 3 and 4 carb manifolds, Navarro 3 carbs, Weiand 4 carbs, etc. - don't believe that any of them have heat risers. The Edelbrock 'Super' duals do not either. The SlingShot...

Re: Carb Jetting and other engine advice needed
Question: I don't believe that intake has heat risers anyway . . . correct? So, there is probably nothing to plug. What are the cubic inches of the engine- any idea? If it was mine, I'd just...

Re: 97 Carb - S/W settings
All of the engines I build are higher performance types - so I use the W setting all the time as having a bigger/longer squirt of fuel seems to help on acceleration.
Note: Stromberg 48 carb bases...

Re: Offy heads
I have a NOS set of Edmunds for a 59AB . . . might just have to dig them out and checkout the sparkplug location again. Thanks for the reminder . . .

Re: Offy heads
Or, they raised their prices because Edelbrock couldn't deliver a damn thing after they sold the company . . . took almost 2 years for them to get back into production.
I call the Offy price...

Re: Offy heads
Thanks FlatJack . . . that is actually good news. There is absolutely no reason to NOT have 3/4" reach plugs in any of the newer heads being manufactured.

Re: 8ba crank in A block
Its Mother's Day . . . everybody relax a bit, celebrate the great Mom's of the world and maybe we can all be a little less judgmental. I'm going to try! LOL

Re: Engine questions
Also, I don't like what appears to be rust on the valve springs . . . do you see rust other places? Getting rust into the oil and running through the bearings isn't such a good thing.
I'd take...

Re: Engine questions
Also, on those main cap supports - you won't need them and if you were going to use them, the right way to install them is to align bore/hone the mains afterwards - to ensure that the center main...

Re: Engine questions
I like the ideas of diesel fuel or mineral oil to wash things down. If it was mine, I'd take it apart and clean the heck out of it - probably cost you a weekend of time and $250 in gaskets.

Re: Weird flathead lifters
My guess is that it is a hydraulic lifter, but the engine is not plumbed to provide oil pressure to the lifter bores, so the lifters are just collapsed and they ran it that way.

Looks like you'll be ready to go in no time. There is nothing better than installing, starting and trying out a new engine . . . like Christmas as a Kid every time!

Re: Intermittent idle surging issues
Another thing to ponder is heat in the engine compartment.
I've had situations where I was boiling the gas in the fuel bowl and causing all sorts of issues. When going down the road a lot more...
