maybe the center main has been shimmed with an open or horseshoe style shim. the shim for those main bearing bolts should encircle the bolt.
you will not know unless you take the pan off.

fabric stores sell quilt batting. it may not be cotton i don't know but i used some years ago and it is still good. might be worth a look but if your wife is a quilter sneak off with her roll.

i need to make a trip to get some bigger items, restoration. i live in Canada north of Montana. shipping is lots of loot so i am thinking of making a quick trip.

use the later banjo, not only because of cracking but the drive shaft/pinion carrier is different.

the early rear end has the pinion on the drive shaft and the later has the pinion on a separate...

i don't know if you did this but the cured JB weld can be sanded smooth to make it match the block. if you have a low spot ad some more and sand again once it has cured.

i don't know what a M.A.C tool is.
i made a socket to fit onto the camgear nut and i put my 1/2" impact onto it. they all come off.
the hammer and chisle method is brutal on the nut i wouldn't...

yes there is a lock collar that can be added to the pump shaft that will limit the endplay.
