I have taken several of 48 thru 52 truck beds apart and have never seen evidence of welting, but since I mostly due 41 and earlier, I put welting on my 49 just my preference

I used heat and a 50 ton press to get one off a 40 ford, the other side just about fell out--go figure. If you use heat use an acetlyne torch

where are you located? I am in SC and do rebuild a few engines--I like to use later crankshafts and rods (8ba) it is a little cheaper to do it this way.

if your original bed has flat side then carpenter reproduces the fenders for them. earlier beds had a raised sides and the fenders do not fit flat to the side. beds are reproduced==LMC-Mac's...

did you use a known mechanical gauge? my 51 merc engine reads high when cold but drops to 60lbs running down the road, 30lbs idling hot. if by chance you used the electric gauge-do you have an 80lb...

if you did not open carb--numbers will be lower--no free air to compress--less compression!

mostly GL4 or below is because most people only need to keep up with one bottle of trans/rear lube--if you made a mistake and put GL5 in your columbia what would this small mistake cost you?

you should see the crud formed by ethanol gas, literally strips off the HD applied tank sealer, turns the carbs to green goo, ruins fuel injectors. but hey it is a HD "bike" and those guys can...

some of the later model 4 speed trans had a removable front "hogs head" this part contained the clutch release shaft/lever/fork--much desired to use when installing later 5 speed over drives

wide belt, mounting is a vertical bolt, not bolted at an angle. as an aside--most army trucks came with an 8ba because they had more power than an 8rt--higher compression
