Re: Swap meet etiquette / Luray

Greetings from Luray, where an ATM truck is available for anyone suddenly in need of cash.

Probably 75% Model T here. Mr. Terry brought some A speed parts that were fun to look over. I picked up...

Re: Intake & exhaust manifold torque

Yeah, but the 45 ft-lb torque is being applied to the nuts on the studs, not to the studs in the block. And the nuts are brass, not Grade 8 steel. And there are concave washers under the nuts. It's...

Re: Swap meet etiquette / Luray

Verbal contracts are legally binding and find their way to courts on a regular basis. To be binding, a contract requires three things: consideration, offer, and acceptance.

Consideration means...

Re: Scum HAMB Hot Rodder Trying to Save a Truly Wasted Roadster...on YouTube!

Here is a random thing I learned doing videos. You can buy a tripod, but if you already have a dial indicator with a magnetic base & pivot arm, you can use the magnetic base as a tripod that will...

Re: Swap meet etiquette / Luray

I think it's more like if you made an emotional appeal or said "all I've got is a $20" or something. That's sort of a general rule, though, not just swap meets.

Re: Intake & exhaust manifold torque

One thing to check for is if you're using torque on the studs to correct for the two manifolds not being perfectly flat and aligned. If they're out of spec then no amount of torque is going to...

Re: Changes in vendors offering distributor rebuilds

There are at least two workarounds that involve modifications to the upper plate. The Bert's rebuilt distributors don't come with the plate, so I guess they didn't think those modifications were an...

Changes in vendors offering distributor rebuilds

I just got off the phone with Bert's Ė I was asking about their item A-12103 (https://modelastore.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=4200), "Distributor housing machined with new shaft...

Re: Radiator/ water pump

I wonder if you could rig up a temporary shroud for the water pump, like the leather ones I see on some cars, that would block the fan draft and allow any leakage to collect there or drip down the...

Put your location in your profile; a member who lives near you may be able to dedicate a Saturday to assessing the car and helping you prioritize.

Re: Swap meet etiquette / Luray

No, just parts. It's a long drive for me, and my bank doesn't have a branch in the area, so I just didn't want to make any rookie mistakes. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Re: Swap meet etiquette / Luray

Sure, but every subculture has its own rules and I don't want to make assumptions. I went to an estate sale recently, and when the starting hour rolled around, the guy running it read a list of names...

Re: Swap meet etiquette / Luray

Is $20s an OK denomination to carry or would $10s be better? Assuming one is mainly in the market for items under $150.

I have an old ('81) copy of the JS, I was going to bring that and a current...

Re: Anyone run a Lion Head

I think we may be using different definitions of "stock." There's stock in the sense of indistinguishable from the factory part, and then there's stock in the sense of the proper aesthetic, something...
