Crazy question, but did you check the carb to make sure there is a throttle plate on the arm your friend is turning? If so, take a look at it and see if it closes completely. I don't see how it can...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a difference between the 2 diagrams, and it is the Ammeter. Every time I use the diagram in post 2 & 3 I connect my ammeter backwards and it shows a discharge...

The original rivets were solid and countersunk to fit into the bracket. The end of the rivet toward the inside of the frame was peened.
The replacement rivets I have used are also steel but...

I get a measurment of about 3/8" to 7/16" on the one I have that is straight. This is measured at the center of the bed panel to a flat spot on the rear center of the cab.
