Re: Few NOS items ?

I agree, sounds a lot like an overdrive lockout cable. Pictures will tell.

Re: will a 59a cam fit into an 8ba

Not all shops check at all. One of our local members had all the machine work done on an 8BA. We went to assemble the engine and noticed the oil pan rail was cracked big as life and twice as ugly....

I'm planning to be there. Friends have a space in the south building. Hope the hot water is turned on for a longer time this year!

Re: Houston Texas,

In the future send me a message if your son, or any other New Zealand V8ers are going to be in the Houston area. My wife and I have attended the last two NZ V8 National Meets (Hawke's Bay and...

Re: Stock '41 Engine?

With the heads on you can't be sure. If it is the original engine (huge if) then the serial number will tell you. 81 is 85 horse, 99 is 95 horse.

The big difference in motors is the block. The 85...

Re: 337 Flathead

That sounds a lot better, runs nicely now.

I just noticed the generator stand in the photo of your first post. Did that go to some sort of extra large generator? I like old large capacity...

Re: 1953 Saddletex interior?

Thanks. I'm doing long term planning for my 53 sedan. I like the idea of the two tone interior since my exterior is two tone. My car currently has a light blue vinyl interior that wears like iron,...

1953 Saddletex interior?

I ran across a brochure for factory vinyl interior in 1953 Ford closed cars. Apparently it was an extra cost option on Mainline and Customline cars, I have seen the 1952 version of the brochure for...

Re: Scat 221 stroker cranks

The crank from a 1938 only 24 stud will also fit. The larger mains and longer crank started in 1939.

Re: Flathead with AC - how well does it work ?

The issue isn't the compressor on the engine, that works fine. The issue is the condenser in front of the radiator. I've only seen one flathead with good working A/C here in Texas. I have seen...

Re: New block

I'm impressed with your no-nonsense approach to this project. I'm curious about how much new parts will go into a typical hot rod flathead when your new block is offered. Since new rotating...

Re: Syncro silent T98 transmission 48 to 52 truck

As noted above the 48-52 transmission uses a different case than the 53 and later transmissions. The fragile part of this transmission is the rear bearing retainer / mount which likes to crack. I...

Re: 43 Marmon Herrington 4x4 top speed

Sorry for the slow reply.

None are easier to find parts for, the units in the list haven't been manufactured for 50 years or more. The most common boxes seem to be the various versions of the...

Re: 43 Marmon Herrington 4x4 top speed

Since you already have an auxiliary transmission, the Cotta unit, you can swap in a different aux unit that has an overdrive. You want to look for a small Watson or Spicer unit. Here is a spread...

Re: 38 Ford coupe fenders

All 38 standard front fenders are the same and are 38 standard only. I see NOS front fenders show up occasionally.

38 coupe rear fenders are the same as deluxe except that most standard passenger...

Re: Aussie 47 mercury

Maybe you could drill the area round and use one of the cast iron crack repair plugs. Then drill one side of the repair plug for the water passage. You'd have to be careful that the plug doesn't...

Re: Column shifter parts diagram and overhaul instructions

There is a very nice write up on rebuilding the column shifter in the F-1 pickups. I think you 46 shifter is functionally identical so the rebuild instructions should apply to your car too....

Re: Spark plug location

Disclaimer: all the following is based on book reading. I respect Ron's experiences and advise. I will disagree with Ol' Ron about where the center of the combustion chamber is on our flathead V8s....
