Re: 1937 V860 carb issue (i think)
I wouldn't suspect the fuel additive as much as the tank itself (and the associated lines). Unless you are absolutely sure the rest of the system is scrupulously clean, there is a very good chance it...

Re: 6 volt positive ground SW gauges
Well, since all electrical gauges I have seen have two connecting posts, I would say polarity doesn't matter; if they don't work, just switch the wires. As to voltage, I think a quick calculation...

Re: 226 engine reading 80# of oil pressure
Aren't King-Seeley gauges supposed to read at the max when there is no power to them? Turn on the ignition and they go to zero. Start the engine and they reflect the actual reading.
Are you sure...

Re: Where’s my water going?
Nothing to do with the original post, but it looks to me like the Plug Number starts with an "R". I think on Champion that means "Resistor". Are you running those plugs for any particular reason?

Re: 1949 ford sedan hood cable
This has always been a fear of mine as well. I got a length of appropriately sized cable and hooked it to the latch and put a loop on the end. I then routed it to a place behind the grille where it...

Re: What size battery, Amos, CCA, CA
Get an Optima Red Top 6 volt. 800 CCA and all of mine have lasted well over ten years. Kind of expensive (about $200) and funny looking as well. If that bothers you, you can get a Faux case and top...

Re: Where’s my water going?
I believe you have a fresh engine. The last one I had built (a 327 SBC) must have been built on the tight side of tolerances, because it would overheat if I let it idle for more than a couple of...

Re: Dome head 3 1/16 +005 anyone
While I wouldn't go so far as recommending it, I can't see the harm if the weights are substantially the same and they had the same head configuration (domed vs. flat top).
As a matter of fact, I...

Re: V8 Engine
Don't the V860's use a special starter? I don't really know, but most other components are different. If so, it could be a problem. just a heads up.

Re: Compression and flow
I like your way of thinking; especially the last paragraph. Lately, I have found that if you can get the quench right, everything else follows and little extra work is required. There are exceptions,...

Re: V8 Engine
I ran a marginal starter for years on my '51. it always started (sometimes just barely) so the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset prevailed. In 2016, I pt a new engine in the car and in...

Re: V8 Engine
Make sure all of the factory grounds (battery to block, block to frame, frame to body) are present and working while you're at it.

A couple of sources I have had success with for odd-ball stuff like this are Southside Obsolete ("barndfind08" on this forum) and Shoebox Central, who seem to have a bunch of used parts...

Re: Flathead 8 and power brakes.
I'm curious; what is your reasoning behind this statement?
A good running flathead makes plenty of vacuum (>20 inches). Is there a difference between 6 volt vacuum and 12 volt vacuum?
