Re: Thread - I screwed up

not to be argumentative but there is no benefit in running the fan unless the radiator is unable to shed the heat load. Most of the time a proper sized cooling system will rid itself of the heat load...

Re: Thread - I screwed up

Very basic
The engine thermostats control engine temperature
The fan sensor SHOULD read the water temperature at the bottom tank/inlet side of the water pumps.
There is no point in running the fan...

Re: Wildfire evacuation

I grew up (in the 50s) just over the hill from Wescott, everybody wanted a Wescott body. At the time, the Wescott name was synonymous with hot rods. Back in the day my nephews "laid up" fiberglass...

Re: Safest Way to Buy a Car Long Distance??

You would be relying on someone else's perception of that car.
A few hundred dollars in plane fair is relatively cheap insurance if you are going to spend significant money.
The internet is filled...

Re: Is lead still needed?

You know guys, the subject of ethanol fuels has been beat to death on these forums. It's not that difficult to replace the offending hoses, carb parts and gaskets with "ethanol friendly" parts

The...

Re: Radiator.... Mac's What say you?

Had my radiator re-cored with a new 3 core wide tube design. Same size as an "old school" 4 core and a lot more efficient.

Any local guy that is competent can do the same. I'd rather pend my...

Re: 1952 ford car clutch install

I have a Centerforce 10" duel friction and flywheel. I love it. Easy pedal and smooth as silk. A great replacement for the old technology.

Re: 1 Fly wheel 2 PP thread bad

Last year I bought a Centerforce II [10" PP, duel friction disk] and flywheel from J*gs using their discount.

Instillation was a breeze and smooth as silk. AND really easy on old knees

Re: The Radiator Blues - Let's Pray

Have it re-cored
with a new 3 row big tube (5/8) replacement. Better "dwell time" (coolant flow in the tubes) and more fins per inch. AND the biggie is better airflow. Price is about the same and...

Re: Another clutch chatter thread

Your post indicates your chatter is temperature related.
Definitely an oil leak or dirty assembly issue (hands, failure to clean the flywheel or pressure plate)

Further down in your post you...

Re: 49-53 distributor

By all means convert to a Chev style. If you are using a [later] Holly or a "period correct" 50s GM style 4bbl your load-o-matic isn't getting the correct signal anyway.
You can read the numerous...

starter bendix

Finally broke the bendix after 25 years of 12 volt. Wouldn't you know it, just replaced the 6 volt field windings with 12 volt last year.
Haven't taken it apart yet but figured I'd replace entire...

Re: 8BA doesnt have power

Thankx Trent. Good on you. I did the same (purist) for many years and Tubman is right. It can be done.
I thought about the Holly but there are many mixed reviews on them. The Holly does not take...

Re: 8BA doesnt have power

It's all a matter of perspective. If you are a "purist" then by all means suffer the issues with the old Ford carbs and the load 'o' matic dis. Parts to service them are becoming increasingly...

Yup, cleaned up the 6 volt armature and drive. I have read that the entire 12 volt starter can be used with a slight mod to the drive. Got in a hurry because I was replacing the flywheel and...

Re: 12 volt starter rpm reduction

Don't know how an early starter is constructed but on my Merc engine I used the housing, field windings, brushes, end plate from a NAPA rebuilt Y block 12 volt starter. (about $50).
Took about 20...
