Long shot on your miss fire but the distributor bodies have been know
to short between cylinder internally.

not that uncommon, just grind a little on the pump housing where it is rubbing.

but there was never any mention if that problem was...

Is this possible? I had the points stick on a regulator one time and
all it did was smoke the generator.

If you are using new production point the contacts will probably not line up.
Bratton's sells a points block that will correct this....

Ford used 1928-29 style sheet metal on pickups and AA's until mid 1930.
Post a picture of your truck, you may have an early 1930.
The picture shows an early 1930. Notice 30-31 headlights, 19 inch...

I do not think you can use the Nu-Rex tool for timing the "B" distributor.

Disconnect both headlights, you my have problem in the one that is still
connected and it is feeding back to the switch.

1930-31 Radiator and gas caps are not interchageable, the radiator cap is
2 1/4" and the gas cap is 2 5/8".
