Need Cylinder Head

I stupidly moved my 29A into my unheated shop last summer without checking to see if I had enough antifreeze. (For years the car was in my heated garage).
During a cold snap here in western...

Re: Starter Motors

Thanks for the input, I will check the end of the armature shaft . Maybe I will even get fancy and us a dial indicator on it. I don't look forward to replacing the flywheel or ring gear though....

Starter Motors

My 29A has the world's crappiest starter motor, which in turn has made my A the most unreliable car I have ever owned. I have owned a lot of ancient cars. After replacing the brushes, the starter...

Re: Is Bars Leak still a good temp fix

Maybe I am just jinxed but I do not recall any stop leak product of any kind (Cooling system, oil, transmission etc,) to ever work for me in 45 plus years of dealing with old cars. I have tried...

Shock Absorbers

What constitutes rebuildable for shocks? Mine are hopelessly frozen and the arms will not budge no matter what. (soak in penetrating oil, hit with small sledge hammer etc.) I am guessing they are...

Air filters

Are there any air filters available for A engines that significantly reduce intake noise? My engine of course has no air filter, and I am thinking about making my engine a little quieter. Those...

Shocks and springs

I have a 29 leatherback. It is a good driver, but the ride seems pretty harsh.
The springs look ok, but when I jump up and down on the front or rear bumpers there seems to be very little movement....

Re: New guy and I have a weird question

Corvairs use manifold/engine cowling type heaters also. The one on my '63 Corvair puts out tons of heat but if there is the slightist oil leak into the cowling surrounding the engine the whole car...

Re: Horn Help

Thanks for everyone's input. I figured out the problem, one of the very stiff uninsulated wires going to one of the field coils on the horn motor was bent slightly and just barely touching one side...

Horn Help

I have a 6 volt 1929 model A with a Stewart Warner horn which appears to be original to 1929 as the motor and insides look pretty old fashioned. It works good but there seems to be a very slight...

Two Electrical Questions

Actually one electrical question

Has anybody noticed that modern 12volt LED tests lights don't work so well when used on 6 volt systems? I tried a couple on my 6 volt cars and about half the...

Re: Model A insurance?

I have a broadform policy for liability only. This covers any car I drive new or old. Otherwise you could say I self insure. My A is worth less than 10K. And although I don't want to I could take the...

Re: 4 blade vs. 2 blade alum. fan

Broken fan blades must tend to do more damage on model A's. I had blades break and fly off of my 1949 Plymouth some years ago and it did no damage at all. (other than having to buy another fan) ...

Cone Clutches/Old cars in general

Any number of things most of...
