Re: Noisy Valves
Thats the way to fix it if you stay original. Depends on camshaft/ lifter condition.
Your lash numbers don't seem bad to me, just one exhaust a tad loose.
But, the head does have to come off.

Re: Noisy Valves
Since your lifters are original type my question is, just how noisy are they ? And are the ones with the most clearance exhaust ?
Looser valves are less likely to burn. Ford increased the exhaust...

Re: Clutch finger adjustment in car
Its hard to set the height while still in the car, but, the fingers can be adjusted equal if the pedal height and operation seem good except for a chatter.
All I do is push the release bearing and...

Re: converting to 1970 v8 points for model a
Which points to use ? Yep, heck of a question
The originals are just fine. A good quality set will last and they are easy to adjust. There apparently was a batch of poor quality condensers...

Re: Won't Start when Warmed Up
A lot of advice above.
Slow turning while hot. I agree with
1. cable size. The bigger the better, at least #1.
2. connections. Could well be a poor connection, especially at a ground.
3. bad...

Re: "Flickering" low bean headlights
I ground pretty much the same as Dave. Right from each light socket thru the conduit to a good spot on the frame.
I feel the same about the light switch possibly being the culprit.

Re: Battery charger
I get garage sale/flea market chargers for cheap and use them for decades. Very seldom does an old charger go bad. Some of the light weight new ones don't last long, especially you happen to drop...

Re: Reducing Steering Free Play
To check steering wheel free-play while vehicle is stopped just lightly turn wheel in one direction until resistance is felt and consider it as zero. Then turn in opposite direction lightly until...

Re: Reducing Steering Free Play
If there is 1.25" of free-play at the steering wheel, then thats not too bad. Less than an inch is good, but, an extra .25" isn't too bad.
By now I would think everyone here would know that...

Re: Reducing Steering Free Play
Is that 1.25" free-play in just the box or total ? If total thats not too bad. If just the box, it should be better/less.
I agree with properly setting the toe.

You can put sand paper in the drum and sand the shoes if you want to try it yourself.

Re: Clutch finger adjustment
I'll assume this stuff is all sitting on the bench. Then the answer is yes. The fingers should be within .002" of each other. Either 5/8 or 11/16 will work, most prefer 11/16.

Re: How Many 2020 Miles Did You Drive
About 1000 on the 'A' each season and a couple thousand on the motorbikes. Then they sit in the barn from Nov til May. I think they try to reproduce each winter.

Re: Spark plug socket
Box wrench just to crack loose and snug up. A little never-seize lets them spin right out and back in.
A chunk of rubber tube inside the socket should keep from breaking them.

Re: Clutch Problem
No, the bearing should not be in contact with the fingers when pedal is not depressed.
How much pedal free-play is there ? Should be in the 1-1.5" range.
What style clutch do you have ? How...

Re: Clutch Problem
Does it work ?
Is there proper free=play ?
Crawl under and check the arm for a crack while someone pushes the pedal.
