Re: 266 versus 276 CI?

I like everything but the Max-1 cam. Look for something a little more agressive.

Re: DOT3 or DOT5 Brake fluid

I've had dot-5 in my 50 for about 10 years now. The only advice I would pass on is: When you bleed the system, pump the brake pedal very slowly. If you pump it too fast you will get air bubbles in...

Re: lowest oil pressure for engine to survive

I run a 286 CI 8-BA with 20-50 oil. Runs about 50 psi at start up but when hot about 10 psi at idle. Have not had any problems in 10 years or more. I've been told that it isn't about oil pressure...

Re: Installing Starter motor

Go with the old style Bendix. I've heard several complaints about the new style.

Re: Disc brake question

When I put disc brakes (front only) on my 50 passenger car with original master cylinder under the floor the only change I made was to remove the residual valve from inside the Master Cylinder. This...

Re: Still vibrating but better

Had the same type of problem when I put a T-5 trans on my 50 8-BA. Trans was set at 2 degrees down and rear was set at degrees up. Still had same problem. Finally compared the input shaft yoke into...

Re: Centre exhaust port baffle or fourth port?

Not to get too far off topic here, but didn't Mark Kirby of Motor City Flathead create a new flathead block with four ports? I know he isn't in business anymore but he was with Shadow Rods in...

Re: flathead oil pressure?

Mine runs about 40 to 50 PSI on startup. I use Castrol 10w-50. After warm up and when it's really hot outside my pressure will drop down to about 10 PSI. With water temperature around 195. Flatheads...

Winter Storage

This is not about storing my car but, about what everyone who lives in the cold north like I do does with all their cans of pressurised products. Like brake clean, WD-40, carb cleaner, etc. I have...

Re: Potvin cam specs

I have a Potvin cam in my 8-BA and it's marked 415 on the end. No one has been able to give me any specs on it. All I can say is it's a strong running cam in my 286 CI flathead.

Re: Clutch Help

Are you saying everything is there except the clutch disc and pressure plate? The truck could have an 11 inch clutch and you should probably use a 9-1/2 or 10 inch clutch. Where are you located? Any...

Re: '50 Ford hood release question

The spring is adjustable in length. There should be slot in the part that goes into the locking mechanism that you can turn with a screwdriver. Can't remember if there is a locking nut on the other...

Re: Dwell

If I remember this right. Dwell does not affect timing but timing does affect dwell. I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: No oil pressure [8BA]

Check the gear on the back of the cam shaft. I had one come loose and no oil pressure. Had to pull the cam and have the gear drilled and a pin put in. Rare occurance but it does happen.

Re: Heater Control Valve & Hose Connections.

Thanks to all who replied. I think I have it figured out now. Differences between 49 and 50 had me confused. Thanks Toby for the PDF file.

Re: Limited slip diff.

Also the 8 inch rear had limited slip. I think a slang term for them was a POSI. I'm looking for one but most are quite expensive.
