Re: 1950 Ford sedan seat too far forward

I’m late seeing this thread, if I remember Correctly you need to remove the bolts that hold the back of the seat on and insert the pins in first, then lean the back forward till the bolt will go back...

Re: 1950 Ford Heater hose connections

Good job Dan, I was going out to my shop and uncove mine. I've seen several plumbed different than mine, It shouldn't matter which way the water passes through the heater core as long as it flows.

Re: 1950 Ford Heater hose connections

The hose from the head should go to the valve, then valve to heater core then core to water pump.

Re: 1950 Ford Heater hose connections

One hose should go to the heater core and one hose to the control valve, the "u" hose goes between the valve and heater core. If the heater works it's probably right.

Re: Never rent your car to the studios

There's no way I would loan my car for a movie, I worked to long and hard to get it like it is. I would probably drive it myself if they needed cars on the street, I bet no one on the set would know...

Re: 50 & 51 Heater Control Valves

I can't think of anything that would be different, maybe the arm the cable connects to? Maybe someone with a 51 will respond.

Re: 50 Mercury Heater Fan Squirrel Cage

Is a Ford heater the same? I saw several on eBay last week.

Re: 50 Ford Fresh Air Vents

I should have a brick in their sidewalk with my name on it, I feel like I've spent enough to pay for one!

Re: 50 Ford Fresh Air Vents

No problem, sometimes you have to work with what you have. I've noticed that the heater core still gets warm from heat transfer through the coolant on the return line, that's the reason for dual...

Re: 50 Ford Fresh Air Vents

Correct, if you don't get every piece of the duct work you have to do what I did.

Re: 50 Ford Fresh Air Vents

On mine I have used the right hole for my fan switch, I installed the same knob on both. I got the push pull switch from NAPA I think.

Re: 50 Ford Fresh Air Vents

Correct, I added a heater to mine and now the right vent is controlled by the heater controls, the air passes through the heater coil so it will be warmer than the left. I have bought cut offs to put...

Re: 50 Ford Fresh Air Vents

My 50 didn't come with a heater, the fresh air controls were on each side of the column.

Re: '50 Ford Overdrive

49 and 50 will interchange, 51 uses the wide mount and The mount is one inch forward on the tail shaft. I installed a 51 od in my 50, had to weld a extension on the mount. If you use a 51 cross...

Re: Ballad of Another Stuck Valve

I replaced a valve, guide and lifter in my 50 a few years back. I hand lapped the valve then filed the stem to get the lash, it's been good so far.

Re: Pulling rear hub and axle shaft assembly on 50 woodie

I've had good luck hitting the axle with a 3lb hammer on the center, most of the time it will jump out. I've had to use a chain on two studs and a winch to put pressure on the axle and the strike the...

Re: Overdrive lockout cable on a '51 Ford

Good deal, I just didn’t want you to have to go through what I did, I thought I could simply turn the mount around and it would fit, I was wrong. I had to put the stock 3 speed back in to get the...

Re: Overdrive lockout cable on a '51 Ford

I would take measurements from the center of the tunnel to the center of the output shaft and output shaft to the frame just to be safe. Once I figured out I had a 51 od trans and needed to make a...

Re: Overdrive lockout cable on a '51 Ford

Tubman are you installing a 51 trans? 49 and 50 use the narrow mount and is about 1-1/2" back towards the tail. I have a 51 trans in mine and had to weld to the 51 mount to use it in the 50.

Re: Overdrive lockout cable on a '51 Ford

That was my problem, I couldn't get under the car. FYI I had to use a ball peen hammer to make clearance for the lever.
