Re: 40 Standard Grille

I recently purchased a NOS '40 std grille, all black . I figured it was a service part.
Drake is advertising all chrome std grilles on his web site at this time. Maybe the last run.

Re: Anto Sway Bar, Rear Shocks on 1939 Deluxe Vert

My experience with a '40 coupe equipped with a Drake rear bar & a Chassis Engineering front bar told me there was no difference in handling if only the rear bar was installed. Testing involved...

Re: Anto Sway Bar, Rear Shocks on 1939 Deluxe Vert

The Drake rear sway bar, shock kit is the single best modification you can make on an early Ford.
That's my opinion, and I'm sticking with it.
The tailpipe(s) will need to be modified.

Re: 39 coupe curling rear window seal

Your existing seals are probably Carpenter brand seals. As built they are too long & curl after installation.
Buy Drake seals, they will fit correctly.

Re: Shocked by the Horn!!!!

The horn button ground "path" is not clean. Your body is completing the ground circuit.
Maybe add a ground wire from the column to the frame.
Also clean the steering wheel under the horn button.

Re: 40 Standard Grille Repair

Real '40 Ford standard grilles are die cast.
Once upon a time the aftermarket produced a stamped steel grille.

Re: 40 hubs

They will fit '45-'47, not '48.
'48 gets you the "new" F1 & Bendix brakes.

Re: Transmission Oil

If you put GL5 in a gearbox with yellow metals it will discolor the yellow metals after several years. It will NOT dissolve them in a few minutes like most people believe.

This I agree with.

Re: Flathead identification

After looking a bit harder, I think we have an EAB long block with the truck stuff bolted on, (bell housing, exhaust, water pumps, generator, fan & early oil filter). Plus there is an oil filter lug...

Re: Flathead identification

The 1948 early 1949 version of the 8ba/8rt used the early (42-48) wide bolt pattern oil filter.

Re: Reds headers & Brockman exhaust

The Steelpack Brockman's will be louder at the tailpipe than the other mentioned mufflers.

Re: not a fan.

I posted this in 2017. I've used this method several times.

Everyone has their own solution for this common problem, this is mine. You must have a '40 fan mount pulley to start with. Remove...

Re: Any luck with paint from tcp?

I've used TCP acrylic enamel. Colors were not spot on, but the paint was good to work with.
