Re: 1954 Ford 3-Speed OD Trans. Fits What Other Years?

The 1952-54 Ford passenger car transmissions (standard and overdrive) were identical. Internally, most of the internal gears are also used in the 1951 models. Most of the gears changed for the 1955...

Re: Cluster Gear Identification

Appears to be the Canadian version of the regular 28-24-18-14 cluster gear, similar to the 8M-7113 gear. The two prongs on the small end use a thrust washer similar to the 8M-7129 with the bowtie...

Re: throw-out bearing

There was a problem with very stiff bearings from Fed-Mogul/National about 1-2 years ago. We quickly pulled our stock and hand tested them all. We ended up returning a large quantity and reordering....

Re: Repair Manual

Sadly there isn’t any sort of comprehensive service manual that covers the individual model years in the early V8 era. There is the Canadian manual (perhaps still available in reprint) that covered...

Re: Transmission question M250

The drum type parking brake was fairly common on the larger trucks with the 4 speed transmission. The band should have an adjustment feature on it. The lining on the band is basically brake shoe...

Re: Noise in 2nd gear 39 Transmission

Not sure who this customer is, but reading his post, I believe he sent us a core transmission (or perhaps just the gearbox case). Whatever we got from him wasn’t his original transmission. So I can’t...

Re: syncro hub position for second

Not sure that it would be “hard up” against second gear, but for sure it’s position would be right next to second gear. I guess there could be a slight gap.......measuring in a few thousandths. I’ve...

Re: 1935 Ford Pickup Transmission hard to get into reverse! HELP!

You could have a couple problems going on there in the shifter housing. The small detent caps on the detent spring will eventually wear through the steel and start to hang up. The spring and two...

Re: 1951 Ford overdrive

Unfortunately we don’t have any of the various clips/clamps for securing the overdrive cable. First of all, without the cable connected to the lockout lever, check it for smooth operation. If the...

Re: 32 V8 transmission gears

For the “press on the bearing after installing the mainshaft” crowd......that’s an awkward process and always leaves you wondering if you got it all the way on. The big issue with this technique is...

Re: Won't go into overdrive when hot.

The current reproduction relays (whether 6 or 12 volt) are all made with the 4 terminals. The usual Ford overdrive applications normally use just three of the four terminals. We keep these in stock.

Re: To those who've been there, original harness, am I fighting a loosing battle?

The first year I owned the 42 sedan I took it out to a couple cruise ins....the last one in the fall. When I got home and put it in the garage I opened the trunk to remove my folding chairs when I...

Re: Unusual flathead distributor.

That’s the 1941-47 Ford G series distributor. I think the housing is the same as the 42-48 V8 distributor.

Re: Front Oil seal on T9 spurgear Trans?

Those did not get a front oil seal. You could try using a sealed front ball bearing....remove the inner seal and leave the outer seal intact. Normally, the oil baffle and the drain back hole in the...

Re: Question on Trans Parts for a 39 box

If you use the 51A-7109-S insert kit, you have to use the two circular wire springs with the inserts. The springs are fitted beneath all three inserts, pushing them outward. The book shows how they...

Re: Question on Trans Parts for a 39 box

Thanks for buying the book. The 01A-7124 synchro assembly would be my choice because the inner hub on this one requires the 81A-7069 brass spacing washer....and these are available in two thicknesses...

Re: 1951 Ford overdrive

The picture of the governor drive gear also shows that it has a right hand pitch to the gear teeth. All Ford OD governors used a gear with a LH pitch through 1956. For some reason they changed to the...

Re: 1951 Ford overdrive

Sometimes you can get the ring spread a little bit with the usual lock ring pliers....just enough spread and twist will make one side of the ring open up a gap. You can push a thin blade screwdriver...

Re: Compression tester

Don’t forget to check that the adapter for the plug hole doesn’t thread too far down into the opening.....it could hit moving valves. A guy I know used one with a long adapter plug on a fresh built...
