Re: Holley 4150 carburetor development history
For some reason Ford couldn't make up it's mind in 1957. 312's came from the factory with either a 4150 Holley, a 4100 Ford (Motorcraft/Autolite) or a Carter AFB. Since all 3 were new that year...

Re: Latest aluminum block.
#2 is actually a detriment, not an advantage! You want to keep as much heat as possible in the combustion chamber. Heat that is conducted away from the combustion chamber into the cooling system or...

Re: Edelbrock 500 for 292?
Rather than go through the hassles of rigging up up adapters, choke, etc., just rebuild the WCFB. They really aren't that complicated. Especially with phone cameras. Just take lots of pictures if...

Re: Hildebrandt oil filter canister
No, if I remember correctly, the center outlet is the return line to the oil pan. For a filter element, you might start out trying one from an original Ford filter. They should come with the...

Re: French Model A aluminum head
Having "the same source for each spark" means that only one of the plugs fired at a time, so the only advantage would be longer plug life!
With just one path from the coil to the distributor...

Re: French Model A aluminum head
This method was common on new cars a few years ago; one coil for two cylinders. Interestingly, the spark jumps from the center electrode to the ground electrode on one plug, and from the ground...

Re: 2-3 Shift Point Speed
That's interesting! Since base timing with the timing lever all the way up is at top dead center, how was it timed backwards?

Wow! That is excellent information! Everybody that has an overdrive transmission needs to print this, read it and keep it handy. Thank you for sharing!

Re: BorgWarner Overdrive Questions
Nothing happens if you try to pull the handle out while in overdrive. It simply won't move. Hit the kickdown and simply pull it out while moving. See post#4 and others.

Re: Brake shoe grinder
You may not need a shoe grinder! After turning a drum, the new shoes will likely be high at the center of the shoe ( the shoe 'rocks' in the drum). Stand the shoe up on the floor or a block of wood...

Re: About spark plug gap
Well, not really. It's the larger gap that determines the voltage needed to fire the plug. The larger the gap (and the higher the compression pressure), the more voltage required. So the spark...

Re: A and AA flywheel castings
No Ford tractor ever used a Model A engine or bell housing. There were some aftermarket tractors such as the Worthington mowers that used regular Model A stuff and industrial/agricultural power...

Re: cr"A"nk it in 45 seconds
Uh, it's "baling" wire, as in hay bales. Not "baiiing" wire, as in a leaky boat.
Or, grab a clothes pin from the clothes line.

Re: 59a oil pump capacity.
Well, McCulloch superchargers were popular back in the '30's and '40's so the original oil pumps worked then. Should work now.

Re: 59AB bearings
They look OK visually, but it would be best to mike them and compare to the original specs. The main inserts may have the size stamped on the back (std. or how much undersize). If the engine has...

Re: "Ace Mechanic" name
As I read, there was a spring loaded switch on the control stick that the pilot pressed to cut the ignition. This was especially noticeable when landing.

Re: Duel exhaust
It's strange that in this computer age a company can't make an exhaust kit that fits! Back in the day every corner gas station had racks of tailpipes and head pipes that fit. In cold climates...
