Re: Cannot get the quail back on

I too gave up on the repro quail on my 30's and just went back to a standard cap. Too bad, I love the look of the quail. I have been thinking (oh-oh) if there was some way I could affix SECURELY...

Re: Frustration

Make sure the wire from your upper distributor plate is not shorting out against the distributor body. Also make sure the armored switch cable (or whatever you have) that screws into the distributor...

Re: Change in driving between Model T and Model A

I can't answer your question, but I do know my grandfather would only drive Model T's because that is all he knew. He last drove a 26 Model T Coupe that was last licensed in 1954. I still have that...

Re: Dumbest Reproduction Parts

I didn't read through this whole thread to see if anyone mentioned this, but how about the crap roller bearings being sold for the transmission? The ones Tom Endy has posted about and I also fell...

Re: Spark advance

I agree with Bob Bidonde and Purdy, you need to get as much advance as possible to get maximum performance. Too much advance robs performance. Proper advance is kinda specific to your engine's...

Re: Distributor Problem

Robert, I went through the same thing as you. I used the Bratton's "machined" point block (part no.. 17531 I believe). I found I had to tweak the mounting holes in the upper plate so as to enable...

Re: Getting my 31 to run right.

Tell us more about how you rebuilt the carb. I had a friend rebuild a Zenith for me and he just replaced parts. Problem is modern jets are likely not sized right. You need to flow test the carb...

Lateral Movement in Transmission Input Shaft

Rebuilding a stock transmission, and have everything back together. I notice slight lateral movement on the transmission input shaft. This is the big shaft with the nose that sticks into the pilot...

Re: transmission noise while in neutral, goes away when clutch is depressed.

Sounds like potentially he used the poorly manufactured bearings when he freshened with new bearings. Of course he didn't know that they would fail in a few hundred miles....and many vendors still...

Re: Tom Endy: Transmission Bearings (Hyatt style)

Barnstuf, my terminology may be in error calling these roller bearings "hyatt" bearings. The Model T crowd I used to hang around with called any roller bearing a "hyatt" bearing so my usage could...

Re: Tom Endy: Transmission Bearings (Hyatt style)

Yes I got some from Brattons and Snyders sold them too. I am glad Bratton's purged these bearings. Interestingly, if you look at the photo of the bearing on both Bratton's and Bert's web sites,...

Re: Tom Endy: Transmission Bearings (Hyatt style)

I should point out I welcome any input from anyone who has knowledge on the subject. The way I wrote the post makes it look like I only want input from Tom. Of course I want his input, but anyone...

Tom Endy: Transmission Bearings (Hyatt style)

I rebuilt my transmission about a year ago or so using the hyatt roller bearings from the vendors. After a couple hundred miles the tranny has a grinding noise while idling in neutral. Having read...

Re: Knocking

Even though this is an old thread.....just for the record, before setting the timing correctly, make CERTAIN your point gap is within the range of 0.018" to 0.022". Correct point gap is essential.

Good Lord, yes. That seems low for that car, at least based on the pictures.

Re: Anyone Know About This Car?

I have to quit following this thread....even though I started it. If I'm not careful, I may wind up with one more Model A (and probably one fewer wife).

Re: Anyone Know About This Car?

It will sell. I just regret timing is bad for me to buy it. Body alone is worth the price if as described. Yeah the interior may reek etc. still hard to get into such a rare model at that price point.

Anyone Know About This Car?

I saw this and said, WOW. Anyone know anything about this car? I'm not going to buy it, unfortunately as I am car poor already, but is this an original condition car? Obviously needs some work,...

Re: Help me identify engine noise?

Re: Schwalms

I'm with Tom W regarding experience with short runs of newly rebuilt, tight engines. My speculation is the problems are all in the cylinders, and maybe removing the pistons and checking out cylinder...

Re: Zenith rebuilds

Call Steve Becker at Bert’s Model A and buy a rebuild. Yeah you can poke around with your carb but through experience I have found it money well spent to buy stuff properly rebuilt by someone who...
