What is the purpose of the hole under the radiator on the lefthand side/drivers on the front crossmember?

Thanks, That's the way I installed it. I've rebuilt quite a few motor and it's usually the little things that stump me.

I kinda agree, Mike Herman built 100's if not thousands of flatheads and putting on a sleeve backwards would be a rookie mistake which is possible but not likely.

Yep....tried that. Either way the spiral would pull it back into the engine.

Not 100% on this but I believe the top on this pic goes IN towards the crankshaft/slingert.

For the Guru's........which direction do you install this sleeve? I should have paid attention when I removed it. Notice the offset in the spiral. Installing it either direction will pull oil back...

Yea, I'd inspect and re-use if there isn't any noticeable wear or corrosion. The price of new bearings add up pretty quick.

Exactly what I intended to do. 1/4' x 20 at the top for easy removal and a lip so it can't be driven to far. Just wasn't sure if the rear cam bearing needed the oil that come thru the squirt hole in...

Some background......Rebuilding a 8BA. Machine work is complete. Cam bearings are in and the rear one is clocked as came from the factory. Fuel pump bushing is not installed. Am I correct in assuming...
