Re: Radial tires

Habusailor (https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/member.php?u=77635),

When putting new radials on my '55 the lead weights used to balance them slightly prevented the hubcap from fitting snuggly. Also...

Re: 1956 Ford 292 ci. water temp.

Hi Babyboomerboy,

I have a 160 degree thermostat in my '55 292 c.i. and after warmed up my aftermarket VDO gauge shows about 160-170 in the spring or fall when not too hot out (below 75F). In...

I bought a 6V generator voltage regulator a couple years back from Mac's auto parts, and set it aside as a spare for future use. Now I need to use it and noticed that on the base of the Regulator is...

Re: 1955 Ford poor brake performance

ditto on Lanny's questions, and also I'd add
- can you reference it against experience you've had with brakes in another '40-50's era car?
- do you notice any pulling to one side?
- what brake...

2. from straight output on heater control valve...

Re: oddball y-block

Hey Sidevalve,

Thanks for sharing that, I went to school in Lincoln and never heard of the place. I guess the poor student aspect of life there had some influence.

Best,
Steve

Re: Hard Start when hot.

While I know your system is a 12 volt, the issue you describe is common with a 6 volt system. Often can be resolved by checking that all cables (battery, starter, solenoid) are in good shape and...

Re: Tires

Westley's Bleche White was bought by Black Magic and they weakened the formula, supposedly to better protect the tires. Coker makes a white wall cleaner, it gets good reviews, but I personally have...

Re: '55 Crown starter cable V8 6v pos ground

I have some recent experience with this. I bought a '55 with 6V positive ground in 2013, from the beginning it was always sluggish on starting and this would get worse when the car was...

Re: Spark plug wires - Fairlane vs. T-Bird

In my search with several suppliers, the conclusion was that...

Re: Spark plug wires - Fairlane vs. T-Bird

Thanks "dmsfrr" What you write makes sense, and considering how tight the existing wires are wrapped around my 292, I can't image them being anything other than longer.

Re: 292 Thunderbird eng??

Below are some good links on decoding the VIN of your Ford. In summary ... if your car's VIN starts with an M, then it came out of the factory with a 292 4bbl.

The standard V8 in '55-56 was a 272...

Mikhett, I assume you are referring to issues regarding the potential to burn out the Pertronix when the OD kick down switch "shorts" the ignition. Supposedly there is a resistor you can install in...
