Re: 1937-1939 Exported Ford pickup vin
Starting in either '38 or '39 you could get a voltage regulator in a pickup at no cost upon request. Mallast documented it in the notes of his '38/'39 book.

Re: Violent shake.
Is there any play in the clutch pedal when it is all the way up? If not the clutch may not be fully engaging.

Re: 47 V8 ignition mystery
You mention the generator and fan going on and off a few times in all of this and once that it ran fine before they went on. No idea how that could cause what you are seeing, but does taking that...

Re: 1941 PickUp Cab Heater
I do have this Parts and Accessories letter that calls out an 11T-18455-B assembly which indicates that it was made for a '41 big truck. I have never actually seen one or an installation drawing.

Re: SUN Engine Analizer Questions
This offer is intriguing. I have an Allen machine (with the book!) that I have never used because I can't get to the secondary. What kind of test lead are you thinking?

Re: 1941 PickUp Cab Heater
Starting in '39 I believe both hot air and hot water were available.
We might have a hot air setup. There should be something like a knockout visible from the engine compartment at the top middle...

Not scientific, but here are all the pictures I could find that I've collected over the years. One is a '38, but all have the speedometer on the right...

Re: 39 truck cowl vent lever help needed
I purchased all of the old V8 times on a thumb drive. Thought that maybe there would be some nugget in there. I searched the index for "cowl" and "vent" separately and found a few things that were...

What is normal charging behavior?
I am still pretty new to A's and am trying to understand the charging system - specifically, what to expect the current to do as a function of rpm. This is partially because I have burned up 2...

Re: 1939 Ford pickup Fan distance
The spacer is a part of the fan - I'd look for that fan if possible. Unfortunately I've only ever seen one at a swap meet once. I've put about 40,000 miles on my pickup and not had a problem with...

Re: 1939 Ford pickup Fan distance
The '39 parts book says 81-C, 91-C and 99-C should have 67-8600, 4 blades, 17" diameter. So, the pickups had a different fan than the passenger cars. Mine has about a 4 inch long tube, putting it...

Re: Generator charging problem update
Could the residual magnetization in the fields be the wrong way? The link below talks a little about the residual but not how to affect it. I think it is saying there needs to be a little residual...

Re: 1938 Ford 1/2 ton pickup - Clutch Question
My '39 pickup had an 11 inch truck clutch installed which made it necessary to pull the pan. Fortunately the entire thing was coming apart so the engine came out before that discovery.

Re: Brake bleeder screw question
I use a socket head cap screw (allen wrench head) in place of the 'dust cap' screw. I drilled a hole down the middle of it to allow flow. The tube fits perfectly and you can tighten/loosen the...

Re: Horn for 1938 Ford 1/2 ton pickup
The horn on '38 and '39 pickups was mounted on a bracket mounted to the front cross member right in the middle. The bracket had flexures on it. I've never tried the horn with a bracket without the...

Re: Horn for 1938 Ford 1/2 ton pickup
You can barely see them in this picture, but for the big trucks for something like 40 & 41 they made bases for the headlamps with lights in them. I'll keep trying to find a better picture, but these...
