Re: Removing stuck distributor and lower shaft

Try Aero-Kroil. Being upside down, it should soak in nicely. Give it a few days.
A thin pipe or conduit might fit over the shaft and let you gently tap the bottom of the distributor that is stuck.

Re: Connecting Rods Hitting Oil Pan Baffle?

Borrow or rent an inspection camera. Pull the fill tube and look around in there. Have someone turn it over with the hand crank and check clearances. This is the easy way to get started. Any hard...

Re: Batteries completely discharging

It is a band-aid, but a cutout switch should be added.
I had an ammeter go bad at a show. Smoking like crazy until I threw the switch. A lot of guys were talking about getting one after that .

Re: Choke rod

Ream it carefully. These cars shake and a snug fit helps hold the needle setting.

Re: Cleaning the radiator

When I did this I bought a few cases of distilled water. Fill, run, drain, repeat. At some point the drained water looks fairly clean. Finish by putting in a good coolant mix. It leached a lot of...

Re: Motor shuts down

Is your timing set correctly? Some form of vapor-lock?

Re: dry transmission

Is there a baffle on the rear trans bearing? You might want to check the levels after each longer drive.

Re: Low Beam Light Switch won't stay in position

I had this problem during a rebuild that had a thread repair that altered clearance. I got two thin mylar washers with a drop if turbine oil between them. No more problem.

Re: 28 oil pan question?

If it is a sticky mess, pull the oil fill tube and see what the dip tray looks like. Pulling the pan is not fun but easier than pulling the motor for a rebuild.

Re: Signal lights

The LED turn signals are great. The best feature is the 4-way blinkers. They are great when you have to stop unexpectedly. Get a good set.

Re: Header wrap or Jet Hot or ceramic coating

You want the manifold to cool. Wrapping it might lower temperatures under the hood, but might cause unexpected heat issues. They warp now!

Re: bicycle turn signals

Added seatbelts to a 31 pickup. A good piece of angle iron under the cab gives them something more solid to bolt through. All they will really do is keep you inside the car. Falling out during an...

Re: Engine rust

One cheap way to de-gunk an engine is to run distilled water in it. Fill it and run it for a little while. Maybe a day or two. Drain and repeat. The water is mineral free and helps leach out a lot...

Re: retard lever problem

Does the lever on the column move the full range? If not, that limits the amount you can advance or retard spark.

1930 170b

I have an early 1930 Standard Fordor 170-B (blindback) that needs a good home. It is currently disassembled and I will not be able to finish the restoration. Frame up, it is surprisingly complete. If...

Re: Rod knock?

Did the babbit break or get ground off of #1 and #2 on the sides of the rod bearings? That missing would explain the movement and sparkles.

Re: stuck distributor

One way to get one out without damaging things is to get a cheap plastic body tool set from Harbor Freight. I used this tool and a plastic hammer. Shove the pointed end between the head and...

Re: Not that original fan again!

There are older replacement fans. I have something like a 1960's 4 blade fan. The 2 blades are screwed to the pulley that fits an A water pump.and clears the radiator.

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch

OK. I guess it was a few years ago when I bought it. The marketplace seems to have changed. You can try a two-cable option with the same results. Just bolt the ends together at the frame.

Re: dies at stops

I had this problem. It ended up being a rebuilt Zenith with a top and bottom that really did not match up well. I had to cut a special gasket so fuel would not weep forward when stopping. It runs...

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch

I got it at the local Farm and Fleet. Any store catering to farms should have one.

They make a longer ground strap with additional holes. They really help.

Re: Gas shut off valve options

Rather than mess around under the tank, I added an in-line valve under the hood and never touch the valve under the tank. No leaks. Not the prettiest, but neither is leaking gas.
