I had this problem, and I live in Texas. The trick is finding an old school machine shop with a lathe big enough for the axle bell to turn. I called so many machine shops and they weren't even sure...

To add to the above post: if you do have a MC for disc brakes in the front, you will need to add a 10 pound residual pressure valve to the lines front and rear.

So I guess a 17 housing is like hens teeth? Should I round up a more common 18 housing and gear and be done with it?

It's in a 19 housing. I have an 18 housing around here somewhere. I didn't realize the housings varied as well

I bought a 17 tooth model A gear from Brattons. Car is running, but it looks like the mesh is not correct with my 40 worm gear on the driveshaft. It spins intermittently like its skipping teeth.

FYi, Roy at fordbolts.com has the ball, spring and cap in stock. Talked to him today and ordered them.
