Re: Spark Plug Fouling
I saw that a lot back in my snowmobiling days. Someone couldn't their sled started so they took the plugs out, looked 'em over good, and put 'em back in because they looked fine. Still no start. Put...

Re: front shocks
I would have to believe that if they are off the car, you should not miss the chance to clean them out. The above approach for cleaning seems fine with me. I don't know enough to comment on the...

Re: 1940 P/U WOC1 - Project
Excellent work! If you can't find what you need, you can either sit down and complain about it or make it. You obviously made the right decision here. I agree with GB, "carry on".

Re: 59A low compression #4 cyl
I can completely understand the desire to not end up with two flatheads in the machine shop at the same time. I think for the time being, you should clean up the surfaces and re-install the head with...

Re: Who's gonna fill their shoes?
I think the comparison with horses is particularly apt. Although horses have not been an important component of transportation for a century, there are still are plenty of them around. Our cars...

Re: My first dumb question
Just to be clear : the 8BA carburetors used on '49-'51 Fords ARE Holley/Ford 94's. They are just a different model. If you have the proper center section, I believe you could install it in one of...

Re: Help me advance
If the carburetor does not have provision for a spark control valve it will run fine without one. The spark control valve is a later update to the "Load-a-Matic" system. I have posted this before,...

They are quite common and usually marked 8BA on the side. If you have limited resources where you are. I suggest you contact "Charlie ny" on this forum. As you may have seen on some other recent...

I left 'em off my last build with no ill effects. I did have the assembly balanced that way to make sure.

Re: Electric steering
Although I am not a big fan of 12 volt conversions, I think this is one situation where it would be mandatory.

Re: 1937 Pickup Cab question
There are a couple of threads on the H.A.M.B. about this very thing that might be worth looking at. I will have to agree that it's a lot of work, but most of the time, it appears to be worth it.

Re: testing coils & Condensers
Quite frankly, while this is good advice, it is really beyond what the average hobbyist wants to do. Swapping components is still probably the best way to to find out what is really going on.

Re: My first dumb question
One last bit of information. "8RT" is the model number for 8BA engines insttalled in trucks. "EAB" is the designation for '52-'53 passenger car engines. These are all "regular stroke" 239 ci engines....

Re: My first dumb question
To clarify the carburetor situation. The earlier (circa 1940) and 8BA engines use almost identical Holley model 94 carburetors. A lot of people can't tell the difference and confusion reigns. In 1949...

Re: testing coils & Condensers
You can test a coil with an multi-meter set to the "ohms" (resistance) scale. Please be aware that you will have to use two different settings for the primary and secondary windings. Use the 0-20 ohm...

"B14" sounds like a casting date code or other manufacturing symbol to me. I am assuming that the unit you removed is a stock Ford distributor, as the aftermarket units are usually clearly labeled....

Re: Introduction
These engines can always use a little more compression. If it was a '53 Merc, it originally had 7.2:1 compression and the EAB's would probably push that close to 8:1. Increasing compression adds to...

Re: Introduction
Late Mercury heads are a poor choice for performance purposes, as they have larger chambers to allow them to have the same compression ratio as contemporary Fords that had a shorter stroke. I think...

Re: Trouble shoot 1950 8Ba initial start up Help
Plugs can look good and still be bad, especially after things like yours have been through. Just ask any old time snowmobiler. Let the engine sit a couple of days with no plugs in it and then install...
