Re: Front End Rebuild Questions
That's how I had to redo mine. Initially I ran the plugs in 2 turns past flush and it made everything way too tight, hard to steer and slow to self center going down the road. Loosened up the plugs...

Re: Lube Unit
After I put the rebuilt engine in the A the re builder said to change the oil every 100 miles for the first 300 miles (I think that's what it was). I used that "used" oil in my beater when it needed...

Re: tire question
When I did mine I coated the inside of the tires with baby powder, put the tube in, removed the valve stem and gave it a little air. I mounted the tire using dish soap on the bead and then inflated...

Re: Headlight Help
For good reliable wiring that is very close to stock I use the 32-50 bulbs, brattons reflectors and ditch the factory plugs in favor of spade connectors. I also run a dedicated ground to each...

Re: throw-out bearing
That's like the one that was in my car, same stamping. Never gave any problems. I almost reused it since it felt better than the new FM bearing.

Re: How to clean radiator & engine water jackets ?
Thermo-cure made by evaporust works great. The inside upper tank of my radiator was covered in years of rust. After using thermocure it was clean brass, I imagine the inside of the block was cleaned...

Re: Front motor mount
Do the springs look like beehives? If yes, I had those. Terrible design. The springs are way too stiff and the wire connecting them wears into the yoke. Definitely go back to stock.

Re: Determining Model A Gas Mileage
I have done the same thing but lining up the F mark on the gauge with the index mark. Ran it down to 1/4 and refilled to that same level. Mine averages between 14-18mpg it seems. I suppose it's not...

Re: Instrument Panel Lamp
Just want to understand this correctly. The light mounts to one of the dash rail screws? Mine is mounted to one of these bolts shown in Bill Cilker's picture. I'll have to check if it has the opening...

Re: Brake kit
I don't have any problem with the stock brakes. I can lock all 4 wheels up no problem. If I had wider tires with more of a contact patch I might think about it. In a stock car the tires are the weak...

I should also mention that Bert’s probably also has good used originals. I got one from Steve last year and it looked and felt brand new.

Re: Loose Pitman Arm
Is there still a gap where the bolt goes through? If so you should be able to tighten it up. I used a 3’ breaker bar to snug mine up. Those original bolts can take it.

Re: Night ride
I need to put a shade in mine. I currently have a piece of cardboard cut to the shape of the rear window and that does a great job for night driving. The reflections are definitely the worst part....

Re: Light switch question
Yeah that's the issue you likely have like Badpuppy said. The detentes on the plate are probably too "sharp" and need the edges eased over. The switch body comes apart easily. Just turn the 2 halves...

Re: Light switch question
Is your harness new? The new discs are .030 too thick.
Bob, if you need a new switch body most vendors carry the A&L made one which is correct for an early 30.

My guess is no although you could probably install a remote filter kit. Or make your own like one member did on here. I think it was Al in NY?

Re: European Fordor project
Okay so you've got a Briggs. Looks like it's in good hands. I've got a soft spot for Fordors. Then again, most Fordors also have soft spots... I'll show myself out.
Seriously though, the new...

Re: European Fordor project
Welcome! I am a fellow Fordor owner and I feel your pain about all that wood.
The cloth tape you are talking about really is pretty much cloth tape and it was what Ford used for anti-squeak. I...

Re: Serious oil leak - rear main seal?
On that hole, odds are one of the bendix bolts worked loose and then punched its way out of the flywheel housing. I've seen it before. If the rest of the housing is okay then it's not the end of the...

Re: Serious oil leak - rear main seal?
Wow... did he name the car Exxon Valdez :D
First, the hole in the flywheel housing is mildly concerning, not related to the leak but concerning none the less.
There is no real seal in the...
