Re: Why a fabric roof?

Ford did make steel that would do the job. Many Ford drawings had marked on them "Material with qualities required to manufacture part"( not the exact wording but the basic meaning) including Fan...

Re: Straightening up a couple of Model A's (Advice needed)

Jyrome,

CA designations were from the start of Canadian Model "A" production, February 1st, 1928, until August 31st, 1929. Following the CA series numbers, a three letter designation was used with...

Re: Tire Balancing Beads Video.

Is the balance of the tire negatively effected, if you were to have five times the amount of beads?

If you don't have enough beads, wood it improve, but not completely balance from lack of counter...

Re: Value of an Un-Restored Model A Engine

Original Model "A" part numbers are declining with time, making the parts still available more valuable.

A man had an original fan belt stashed away. When he died his stash goes into the garbage...

Re: OT: What type wood between frame rails and truck box?

White Oaks finer grain is made up of small elongated football shapes that wouldn't accept liquid. Red Oak grain is like a pile of straws running the length of the wood which allows it to suck up lots...

Re: Straightening up a couple of Model A's (Advice needed)

Hello Jyrome.

Nice to welcome another Model "A" man!

I would agree the front car is a 1930 Standard Fordoor Murray. There aren't signs of any holes for cowl lights that could indicate a Town...

Re: Ford car Ford gas

Good eyes! I'm glad I didn't fork out the $4.95, you just saved me $4.50 for a set of five.

Re: Ford car Ford gas

I don't remember ever seeing Ford gas globes, even at Hershey! Did I just miss them while my eyes were focused on Model A parts?

With the price of tires at that time, an original fan belt was...

Re: Barrett Brake Dokter Drum Lathe information needed

Model AA meetings would be good therapy but wouldn't discourage the tool buying.

Re: Fantastic picyure

Robertson screws mounting the windshield stanchions, another giveaway.

The Police only stopped him to ask where he could buy a Ford for himself.

Re: Favorite "A" Body Style

My 165-C is mostly wood and that's what I like about it. Too bad it isn't visible!

A sign in a wooden boat builders shop read; "If God wanted fiberglass boats, he would have made fiberglass...

Re: Favorite "A" Body Style

Ageed, I love the Sport Roadster to look at as I mentioned above. My car of choice to actually drive is my 1930, 165-C Standard Sedan.

Re: Wishbone question

This is an excellent repair method, Brent!
I would assume if you threaded it, that the center was not hard, only the surface was 60RC.
I often use a carbide tipped masonry drill for hardened...

Re: Favorite "A" Body Style

Canadian, Sport Roadster. Built for a short time starting August 1929. Although still classed as a 40-A, the following features differ from the Standard Roadster;

> Folding windshield with Nickel...

Re: List of Reproduction "A" Parts That Don't Work

Back to inferior parts, here is a small list from over the years. (I won't get into where they came from). Some are not made anymore and some are still popping up from the past and some are currently...

Attracting new Model A members.

Seeing an ad for magazines reminded me of a clever idea.
I didn't come up with this, just remember some discussion here not long ago.

Anyone with Model A magazines to pass on, could drop one off...

Re: 1930 Radiator Shell Hood Hinge Retainer (A-8220-A) Finish

Brent, you are correct about stainless being harder to stamp than mild steel.

There are hundreds of types of stainless. 304 stainless is similar to that used for the Tudor, so as a "rough"...

Re: 1930 Radiator Shell Hood Hinge Retainer (A-8220-A) Finish

Brent, I found a drawing of the clip which dates 1927, 28 and 29. It shows the part made from 14 gauge Cold rolled Open hearth Carbon steel. No indication of polishing ( probably tumbled) with a...

Re: 1930 Radiator Shell Hood Hinge Retainer (A-8220-A) Finish

I have a few that are definitely not stainless steel as they look like yours, Brent. They seem to be nickel plated to me but not positive.
I wonder if they used nickel plated steel ones, and when...

Re: Fan catastrophe avoided

As the Model A Ford ages, there are more chances for failure as parts wear or fatigue. The judging standards access cars to look just of the line. This requirement means that parts that need to be...

Re: Distributor shafts - one piece or two piece?

A rigid, one piece shaft with non aligned bushings will cause interference. With two pieces, the extra joint allows for a slight amount of forgiveness.

Re: Do rivet nuts work?

The seat belt topic has been discussed on this site before and would be worth looking up, before starting. Mounting belts to the body and how the body is secured to the frame among other issues come...
