Re: Why do you own a Model A?

A few years ago I was in a meeting at work with a number of people who didn't know each other. In order to break the ice, my boss asked everyone to tell what kind of car they drove and why. I said my...

Re: RH Drive Model A

If you look at the Canadian Model A Ford Foundation website (CMAFF.com) you will find Australian instruction manuals which have illustrations of the controls that will show you the differences.

Maxxis tires

I have been looking for small 16" tires for the front of my AV8 project. Most are quite expensive but I just noticed that Coker has Maxxis Taxi 175R16 tires for much less. They appear to be made for...

Re: 39 Standard Generator to 12V

I wanted to convert mine to 12V also but was told by one vendor that the 12 V field coils were no longer available, and I couldn't find a used 12V generator to get one from. I ended up ordering a...

Re: Mohair interior?

Here is a summary of the Upholstery for the 1931 Deluxe/Special Tudor from the Canadian Model A Ford Foundation research material. Mohair was a special order option.

Re: 1939 pedals

Just to clarify, it wasn't the pedal arm that snapped - yes they are forged and hard to bend unless red hot. It was the body that attaches to the master cylinder or k-member. If I had been more...

Re: 1939 pedals

I bought a Drake assembly for my AV8 project as I couldn't find an original around here. It cost me close to CDN$400, but it was the best option for me. I had to bend the pedals to fit through the...

Re: I found a crack in an odd place while pressure testing

I had a very similar crack in an otherwise very solid block. Paid a lot to get it welded by a very proficient welder who heated it in a furnace first then slowly cooled it. I think he used high...

Re: 31 tires

I ordered a set of Goodyear's in March. They arrived in Blaine WA just as the border closed, and there they sit. If I'm lucky I'll have them on my car next summer, and I'll let you know how I like...

Re: Noise in 2nd gear 39 Transmission

Did you replace the cluster gear roller bearings? Most of those available now are imported junk and can fail prematurely. Look for Tom Endy's post below ( under Model A's) or his tech articles under...

Re: Seat Belt

When installing seat belts you should consider the government design requirements when making the attachment points. The structural components of a pelvic restraint must each withstand a force of...

Re: Across USA road trip

Have you considered starting and ending your trip in Canada? It's a simple procedure to buy, license and insure a car in B.C., drive across the border and travel west to east. It's a spectacular...

Removing valves from a 59A

I just spent the better part of 2 days trying to remove the valves from an old frozen and gummed up 59A that I'm hoping to rebuild. What a messy and horrible job! I read a number of guides on how to...

Re: Self respect

I use a sheet of corrugated plastic. Easy to slide on and lasts forever. Just wipe clean with a little simple green. Save my cardboard for catching oil drips.

Re: 1930 Ford Canadian Standard Pheaton 35-B Body Colours

The colours listed in the Canadian section were apparently used in addition to the US colors so your paint may indeed be Brewster Green. Also one of the Canadian service letters (July 1929) mentions...

Re: Putting a V8 in a model a

There is a good article in issue 77 of the Rodder's Journal about Vern Tardel's Model A-V8 conversions. That's a good place to start, then you can buy his book for more detailed information on how to...

Re: How to attach a Turn Signal Flasher

I used a plastic 35mm film canister screwed to the firewall. The flasher slips inside it perfectly. This was before digital cameras were the norm, but you still might be able to find one in a camera...

Cracks on C69A block

I picked up a C69A block and after cleaning noticed some ripple-like lines on one side. Magnafluxing does not show these to be cracks, so I'm wondering if these are just irregularities in the...

Re: Uhaul Auto Transport & Tudor

I used one recently and was a little shocked the first time I stopped to find one of the straps had slipped off a tire. It happened a couple more times too, on each tire. The ratchets were as tight...

Re: firewall inside insulator?

I bought a piece of black carpet runner from Home Depot. The backside has a nice pebble grain which looks nice facing out. Make a template out of cardboard and trim to fit. Attached to firewall with...

Re: Health and Safety while working on my A

I use a sheet of corrugated plastic (Coroplast from Home Depot). It's easy to slide on and clean grease and dirt off. Our club made some up with our logo on them. Never use my creeper anymore.

Re: 1930 Fordor Town Sedan Front Seat: Need More Leg Room

I'm 6'3" and had the same problem. I removed the seat adjuster completely, allowing the seat to slide back until it hit the floor. That still wasn't enough so I added some 1/4" shims between the seat...
