Re: generator output

"Try moving the third brush up to increase the generator output."

Actually, to increase the generator charging rate, you move the third brush DOWN towards the ground (in the direction the...

Re: 1928-29 Drum Taillight Brackets, L & R

This is less than half price for the identical pair from vendors. If you plan on using your taillight for turn signals, you will need the right side taillight base, too. Cheaper for this pair than...

Re: New Price: 1928-29 Sidemount complete, NEW

Snyder's is out of stock for this 1928-29 sidemount. Who knows when or if they'll be restocked? Once this new sidemount assembly is sold, that's all I have. If you think you are going to need this...

Re: Second gear

And when you examine the shift tower, ensure that neither of the two shifting forks is bent. That can happen when someone panic downshifts too hard. A twisted shifting fork will make sliding the...

Re: Second gear

Will it go into 2nd gear with the engine off? If not, then the problem is definitely inside the transmission or in the shift tower. Was it like this since you bought the car or did the problem...

Re: Second gear

For starters, lower the idle speed and use a heavier lube in the transmission. I like a 50-50 mix of 600w and STP oil treatment. Make sure the clutch is adjusted properly.

Re: Misfire mystery

"Anyone think the timing gear could be a tooth off and still run ok?"

A Model A engine will run with the timing gears one tooth to the left or right of the index marks. But all is not well if...

Re: Car will not start

Check to ensure the intake manifold ports are sealed or else fuel will not be sucked up into the cylinders. Remove #1 spark plug and either spray some starter fluid into that cylinder or dribble some...

Re: Frustration aligning doors in a Fordor Body

Boy-Howdy, did I need to see THAT, Larry! If I didn't see a different background through the body's window openings, I would have sworn your photos show the body I am working on. Compare your photos...

Re: Model Tree

The owners probably wouldn't sell these cars way back when because they were going to restore them someday. Well, "someday" came and went and look at what the passage of time has wrought. 100%...

Re: Frustration aligning doors in a Fordor Body

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement, Larry. This whole restoration has been a nightmare. As you well know, every once in a while you get a difficult restoration like this where seemingly the...

Re: Frustration aligning doors in a Fordor Body

Thanks, Larry. After more hours of frustrating shimming, I have settled for lining up the outer mid-door mouldings so that they match from the front door past the middle pillar to the rear door in a...

Frustration aligning doors in a Fordor Body

I have spent a couple days trying to shim and get the doors aligned in a 1929 Murray Town Sedan that I am restoring. When the body was removed for paint two years ago, I didn't notice any shims when...

Re: Misfire mystery

You wrote that you installed new spark plugs. Are the metal gasket rings in place beneath the plugs? They seal the cylinders. If one is missing or a plug hasn't seated all the way against the...

Re: Ring gear replacement

By the way, don't waste your time and acetylene heating up the old ring gear. Just hack saw it in one place and the gear can then be tapped off easily. Use the heat to put the ring gear ON the...

Re: Ring gear replacement

FORWARD! It can't go backward because of the stop ledge on the flywheel. Be sure to put the new ring gear on with the beveled teeth facing towards the REAR, or the Bendix drive won't be able to...

Re: Model A no spark

If those wires burned up that badly, the wires from the terminal box to the instrument panel most likely are also toast. If they look the least bit blackened or feel crispy, replace them. All the...

Re: 7 tooth retainer clip

You might try matching the broken ring at a hardware store to see if they have a snap ring close to that size. As long as there is some kind of retainer on the bottom of the steering shaft in that...
