Re: 66th Model "A" Ford New England Meet

I have lived my entire life in New England, yet never considered Boston to be at all representative of New England. Instead, I think of small towns in Connecticut, central and western Massachusetts,...

Re: Steering Gear Box

When I considered the cost of parts to rebuild the 7 tooth on my ‘28, I opted to install a Randy Gross F100 conversion. I’m glad I did, for the quality of the box he supplied, the pleasure of dealing...

Re: Really enjoying driving my model A

I think there’s something special about a Model A. Several years ago, I purchased my father-in-law’s prized 1930 Chevrolet two door from my sister-in-law, about 16 years after he passed. The car was...

Re: Gas tank leak steering column bracket

I installed the 31 style column support in my ‘28 just a couple of days ago. Thank you, Tom, for the excellent write-up. I worried (probably needlessly) that I may have difficulties someday removing...

Re: Off topic: If you were 18 again?

At 18 I was beginning my sophomore year of engineering school, with the dream of designing race car suspensions. I was told that to learn that I should get a job with one of the big 3 automakers...

Re: 28-29 open car striker plates

As it turned out, I couldn’t see a good way to make the Battlefield striker plate work with their latch on my RPU. Although the latch and striker plate worked ok together off the car, when installed...

Re: 19 gauge sheet steel

I recently purchased some 18 gauge new from onlinemetals.com. You can buy online and pick up at their Wallingford warehouse.

Re: LED Tail Lights - Adding Resistors

No need for an apology. :-) I was just trying to help with the confusion that seemed to exist earlier in this thread. If you have LEDs and a conventional flasher, and the lights flash too slowly,...

Re: LED Tail Lights - Adding Resistors

“Hyper-flashing” refers to modern vehicles where the directional s are controlled by a computer module, not a traditional old style bimetallic flasher. With a traditional flasher, the higher the...

Re: TCP Global Epoxy Primer

This year I shot some epoxy primer (Eastwood branded) that I bought in 2019. The primer itself is pretty thick and settles out well in a matter of just a week or so. A drill attachment stirrer makes...

Re: 28-29 open car striker plates

I can’t use the Snyder’s piece. There’s just not enough clearance between the tongue of the latch hook and the body of the striker plate to allow the back edge of the latch to slip between them. But...

28-29 open car striker plates

Not a rant, just posting this in hopes it’ll help someone.

My ‘28 open cab pickup came with a reproduction door latch (outside handle) and no striker plates nor wood. The cab was in sorry shape....

Re: WD40 as hand cleaner

I like Tub o’Towels. Great for removing oil/grease/dirt from hands and other objects without water. I do use WD40 as a solvent when cleaning machine parts that the water-based parts cleaners struggle...

Re: Sandblasting

One thing you can do to avoid moisture problems-may not be worth it to you. In my shop, the air traveled through about 35 ft of 3/4 copper tubing, with two drop-out traps before the final filter...

Re: Sandblasting

Did my entire RPU body with a small sandblaster powered by my 3 hp, 60 gallon compressor. It was slow, but I’m retired and have the time. I used Tractor Supply fine grit, and it left a surface ready...

Re: Starting to Have 2nd Thoughts About Restoring This Model A Coupe

Like nkaminar says, if your goal is simply to have an “A” to drive at lowest cost, buy one you can drive. For me, the enjoyment comes from the hours in the shop rescuing what others would relegate to...

Re: Painting Letters on Vintage Plates for Model A?

I think it depends on what your objective is. My Model A will look nice when “complete,” but not a show vehicle. I found some appropriate YOM plates, grit blasted them, rattle can primed and painted,...

Re: Early Emergency Parking Brake identification

Like WTSHNN points out, that lever is not the early 28 frame mounted lever. Below is a picture of what the frame mounted early 28 lever looks like. Apologies if it is rotated.

Re: Fertile imagination-alternative engine

If I was going to do this, I’d look closely at whether the Ford Kent 4 cyl could be used. Ford genes, overhead valves but no timing belt/overhead cam newfangledness. Popular for Formula Ford, so lots...

Re: TCP Global

I have used TPC global restoration single stage urethane and am more than pleased with it. Although I used it on a Model A body, I used a 1956 Ford color, so can’t help you with color match, etc.

Re: For those who don't have a four post lift......

No, but at 66 I know exactly what they are talking about, and hope that If I make it to 79, I’ll still be able to do that, even though it’s bound to hurt a lot more then than it does now.

Re: hoky fixs

My RPU had a total of 12 rear spring leaves, and they improvised shims for the clamps.
