Re: '40 coupe upholstery question

I have never seen wind lace used anywhere else except around door openings. Never around windows.

Re: Major brake adjustment procedure request

As a side point. I recall years ago reading that the original 1940 OEM Ford brake lining was .18 in. thick. I assume 1939 was the same.

Re: looking at a restored 36 ford coupe

For $38K I don't want droopy door handles. If you want a five window look for a 40 Ford.
They have "the classic look" and are always in demand.

Re: Lathe set up help for my shop

Never thought of making a hole in the wall. Unique idea.

Re: Fuel problem on my '40

Mike, Just for the heck of it check the seating of your new power valve by marking the surface with a black marker to see how it fits surface on surface. Blue layout dye also works the best. Also...

Re: '40 coupe upholstery question

I am not sure what you mean when you say, "The windlace in my opinion is not necessary unless the attachment methods mentioned previously by window frames etc are not any good."

If you're going to...

Re: Lathe set up help for my shop

Make sure you allow enough room to feed bar stock thru the headstock and into the chuck.
What kind lathe do you have (Southbend)? I sure miss the lathes I had when I was teaching high school metal...

Re: Major brake adjustment procedure request

Here it is in full. The last 4 photos tell how to adjust the E-Brake.

Re: Fuel problem on my '40

Mike: I just found my 1986 receipt for my Grose Jet that I
bought for my Holley. A 3 page listing of all the Gross Jets and what carbs they fit also came with the part.

The list shows that...

Re: Fuel problem on my '40

Mike, Since I have a 1953 Ford V8 in my 40 I used the the Gross jet for the carb that was on that engine. I think it was a Holley 94. I don't know what Gross Jet would fit the stock 40 carb but, I...

Re: 39 Trans rebuild

Is this a possibility? Seems very (too) inexpensive. Google 1939 Ford input shaft bearing.

Re: looking at a restored 36 ford coupe

Post photos with plenty of detailed info. for best feedback to your question.

1936 3 windows are far more desirable.

Look here to get a feel for the "asking" market....

Re: Fuel problem on my '40

Mike, Glad your kitten is purring.

As a side note, I used the Grose Jet set up to avoid needle and seat problems and it always worked fine and dandy. Consider it as a future possibility.

Re: flathead refresh

Don't do it. Leave it be if it's running good.
Otherwise you are about to open your wallet needlessly.
51 Ford engines were 8BA's.

Re: Brake Drums

Can't argue with the Ford literature. Still amazes me that an assembly line worker would be able to literally line up those marks. If so, I bet it was it was only done once - at assembly time.

Re: Brake Drums

Ken, Are you sure about the reason for that mark? I can't imagine folks on the assembly line matching valve stem locations to brake drum marks. It would be tedious and hard to do, I think.

Re: headliner

Sounds like you were sent the wrong headliner or it was made incorrectly. Ribs (bows) should not be exposed.
There should be loops sewn onto the inside of the headliner into which the headliner...

Re: Fuel problem on my '40

Mike, Mr. Seery makes a good point. A bad power valve would not dump gas into your crankcase. A fuel pump with a bad diafragam will allow gas to enter your crankcase.

Play it safe and rebuild...

Re: Running Hot When Not Moving

Does your radiator need to be cleaned out. Is your system pressurized or original OEM?
What pound cap are you using?

Mike, That's great news. Nice to see things are now getting better. Make sure power valve seats properly properly when you install it.

Re: Fuel problem on my '40

I have noticed that those pressure gauges (filled with glycerin) will not read accurately
due to the under the hood heat created by the engine. To solve the problem, I drained out the glycerin.

Re: Fuel problem on my '40

Hi Mike, That 12881 unit is preset to 6 psi.
https://documents.holley.com/199r11227.pdf

Did you see this Holley unit that provides 1-4 psi?...
