Re: tell a Model A related story

Actually, this may make sense! If the oil level is too high, the crank and rods may splash through the oil, throwing too much onto the cylinder walls for the rings to keep up. Modifying the...

Re: tell a Model A related story

It's interesting to research the "life in the 1500's" story. What you quoted is part of a much longer list. A lot of items sounded rather fishy so I did some research. It was Snopes (as I...

Re: tell a Model A related story

I read an item just this morning about a problem transporting electric vehicles from the factory to the dealer. It seems these vehicles are so heavy the transport trucks can't carry a full load...

Re: tell a Model A related story

Spot on, Gary, spot on! Especially your comments about how people throw so much money at their pet dogs. A friend recently asked me why so many people prefer to live in a kennel (because their dogs...

Re: tell a Model A related story

Hi Gary, My apologies for seeming to make light of your career. That was not my intent. I just wanted to show an example of an occupation that went from being labor intensive to becoming...

Re: tell a Model A related story

"Affluence. Squander and extravagance." Isn't that a fact! But I sometimes wonder if that isn't a necessary by-product of technology, needed to keep people employed, thus feeding their families. ...

Re: tell a Model A related story

Hmmm, I don't see how that could be done. The failed engine is now just an 'airbrake'. Since the engines are a good ways away from the center of the fuselage, the still running engine is going to...

Re: tell a Model A related story

Gary, you mention 'expensive kennels'. Around here many kennels cost in the $200-300,000 and up range. They are heated, air conditioned, carpeted, full of furniture and stocked with food. They are...

Angry Re: tell a Model A related story

So true, Gary. In central Arizona several years ago 19 firefighters burned to death less than 1/4 mile from safety due to numbskull desk drivers, miles away in Phoenix, putting themselves in charge...

Re: tell a Model A related story

Could very well have been that those children's books were slanted toward homosexuality. Seems like Q***s are always looking for fresh meat! So make it seem OK to innocent kids!

Re: tell a Model A related story

"all canned and labeled 'fido'"! I love it! This has to be the comment of the week, at least! Maybe of the year! Thanks, Gary!

Re: tell a Model A related story

How did you prep the hopper to hold fuel, and how much did it hold? Seems like a rather big risk for fuel contamination!

Re: tell a Model A related story

Gary, did any of your planes have air conditioning? Those long ferry flights must have been like an oven in the cockpit!

Re: tell a Model A related story

That reminds me of what my Dad used to tell about when the Model A came out (he was a teenager then). This may have been part of a popular song, even. Anyway, it's "Henry's made a lady out of...

Re: tell a Model A related story

OK, here's a question: Suppose you are taking a trip with your A starting tomorrow. After the customary "preflight", you head down the road to parts unknown. How far could you go before it quits or...

Re: tell a Model A related story

It's pretty much across the board. Standard practice seems to be: Repair it the most expensive way to maximize profits. This at both the factory and dealer level. It's been said that a dealer...

Re: tell a Model A related story

Those clay tile roofs seem to be a top choice in southern Arizona, too (Phoenix and Tucson especially). They hold up the best under the desert sun.
Another question: Did you ever get blinded by...

Re: tell a Model A related story

Gary,
Why was/is corrugated sheet steel the material of choice for buildings? My experience has been that a metal building is an oven! Especially a metal roof!

Re: tell a Model A related story

Thanks, Gary. I didn't think about the fuel situation but it does make sense. Why outfit your work vehicle for play? It would be like a farmer racing his tractor on the weekend! (although that's...

Re: tell a Model A related story

Question from an armchair pilot: An Airtractor must be a rather stout plane, considering its intended purpose. So this got me curious. How is it for doing stunts, aerobatics? Can you go out and...

Re: tell a Model A related story

I've heard it said that cross-country flying is hours of sheer boredom interrupted by moments of sheer terror. Is cropdusting the opposite?
