Re: Identify this front main crank seal

In about a month I should be receiving my new Brassworks radiator and at that time will address the front seal replacement. Thoughts about using the modern seal verses the original style. I believe...

Identify this front main crank seal

I recently dropped the oil pan to inspect center babbit, all was good. Oil pan gasket set included a white half circle seal that does not match the seal intalled.
What I have is a grey donut full...

Re: New tube shocks

Gas shocks are extended right out of the box, and hydraulic are not. Just replaced my Speedway Motors branded gas shocks that failed just out of warranty, gas type not too firm. Speedway sells Afco...

Re: spark plug recommendation needed

I have been very happy with Champion 589/W89D described as an agricultural equipment plug. Has a very long electrode/insulator, was told Pikes Peak racers use this plug? Buy direct from Champion, not...

Re: Is this U-Joint play normal

The joint I have is a Spicer. The play is not the needle bearings, it is the side-to-side movement of 3/32". Difficult for me to explain? Would a rebuild kit remove this play or is it the yoke that...

Is this U-Joint play normal

I am preparing to install a Mitchell overdrive and synchro transmission. Upon removing the torque tube I found that the U-joint has 3/32" of play in and out is this normal? I would think this would...

Re: Putting model a on lift

I have a Huckster, all wood on frame. I was not too fond of lifting from the frame on my 2 post-lift. I made arm extensions from 4X4 steel 1/4" wall 24 inches long. I just slide these over the arms....

Re: Labels inside of new tires

The stickers inside the American Classic radials I installed several months ago were difficult to find. I had to use a flashlight to find them, they were small and were coated with a black film. A...

Re: Labels inside of new tires

My experience with British cars and wire wheels taught me a few things.
Remove all stickers and the adhesive that is left behind. Wipe the inside of tires and exterior of tubes with tire talc...

Re: Stock Model A 1/4 mile time?

Paul Shin just did a 1/4 mile run using a GPS app on his phone. I tried to download the app he used without success.

Re: Advance lack of response on RPM on a 31

David, you make a valid point but I think an accurate starting point is necessary. In my case, it may be more critical because I am using the NuRex spark advance unit. It is my belief that this unit...

Re: Advance lack of response on RPM on a 31

I have the Pertronix on the A and my other classic cars, never had a failure just set it and forget it. When I got the A a year ago the Pertronix was one of the first changes I made. Timing of the A...

Re: Pulling my head out...

Last week I removed the head on the "A", this was my first attempt in the few months of ownership. I first backed off on the nuts and cranked the engine but no movement. Soaked with penetrant still...

Re: American Classic Radial Tires

I recently purchased the American Classic radial tires and set pressures to 35, the max for this tire. Why do people add more pressure than the manufacturer states I don't understand. I have a...

Re: Expensive

I can not put a price on the joy that this Model A has brought me over the last 8 months and 2500 miles. Purchase a car in very good cosmetic shape but needed some mechanical work that I do myself....

Re: Radial tire pressure

If you remember back in the olden day when radial tires first came to use in the USA they all bulged. They appeared to be low on air pressure but were not. My new American Classic radials set at the...

Re: Model A oil filter test

I am using a Wix filter on the valve cover style oil filter. As per Paul Shin he suggested drilling out the backflow gasket. I instead cut slits with exacto knife. When oil pressure builds up, you...

Re: 3-point seat belts in tudor

There is just so much that can be done to make a Model A safer. My main concern is not to be thrown out of the car. In the case of my woody, a rollover would result in a massive pile of wood shards...

Re: 3-point seat belts in tudor

Re: 5.5 high compression head

Has anyone used a Champion W89D plug? A local "A expert" said to use this plug, used by hill-climb racers? It is a much longer electrode plug for industrial applications, not Model A. I have put...

Re: People just love the Model A

I am new to the Model A hobby since this past July. I own some exotic cars but they don't get the attention that the A gets. The constant thumbs up, horn honking, picture taking, and being stopped...

Re: 5 Speed Tranny-Brazil?

The chart shows a length of 509mm, A quick check of my A I estimate the length is about the same as the original. My guess is that no cutting necessary.

Re: 5 Speed Tranny-Brazil?

Yes, I also saw it, very interesting. If it is the real deal would love to have one. I am not wild about the other overdrive option as the Mitchell with a second shifter.
